Just spent 3 nights at the American Guest House in Washington. Even though I was in one of the smaller rooms I felt I had plenty of space and the room definitely had character. The staff were very polite and courteous. Would definitely stay here again next time I am in the area.

If you are used to traveling abroad and enjoying the B & B's there, consider this as your European home in the US, in the nations capital! The experience is from start to finish, gracious and warm. Our hosts greeted us at the small table that functions as the check in/out desk. The dining room is set up to encourage conversation between travelers while eating lovely breakfasts. The rooms are albeit up flights of graceful steps. But it feels like you are ascending in your own turn of the last century home; this is true of the sitting room as well. The B & B is ideally situated for people (like us!) who enjoy walking a city. We walked to the White House and to the Columbia Heights Farmer's Market and everywhere in between! If you don't want to walk, the metro and buses are near by. A wonderful weekend stopping place. We highly recommend it!

I stayed here over a long weekend and really enjoyed the whole experience. My checkin/out was no-hassle, the room was exactly as advertised (small, but well kept), the other guests were friendly and considerate, and the breakfasts were great! I would definitely stay here again if I needed a hotel in Adams Morgan (15-20 min walk to red line stop)/Dupont (5-10 minute walk to red line stop). All the 18th street restaurants were within a 10 minute walk and the rest of the city was accessible from the red line. Joseph and Jonathan were welcoming and even make to-go breakfasts if you need to get up and out in the morning.

Enjoyed the breakfast very much. The place is clean and quiet, nicely decorated, brand new bathroom. Bed sloped down towards headboard, so had to switch ends to sleep comfortably. The price didn't seem like much of a bargain for the off season. Walk to metro is about 15 minutes.
