Overall, a great stay at the Residence Inn. My husband was in town for a conference so my 6-year-old daughter and myself tagged along. We stayed for a week. We travelled by red eye and arrived at Reagan Airport at about 7:30 a.m. Hopped on the metro and was at the hotel in no time. It is just a couple blocks away from the Federal Center SW stop. Needless to say, we were tired, but they were able to check us in! The free breakfast was still going on (til 10 on weekends) so we ate and then went to our room to nap for a couple of hours.
Our room was 1111 – a one bedroom suite. Everything was very clean and in good shape. Kitchen was basic, but that didn’t matter as I was on vacation and didn’t plan on cooking at all. Lots of outlets for our myriad of electronic gadgets, comfy bed and good shower. Windows looked over to office building, but that didn’t matter – I don’t expect a view in DC. Even though the room was close to the elevators, it was very quiet. Ocasionally heard the train, but it wasn't often and it wasn't late at night.
Breakfast buffet was pretty good. Seating area was larger than other hotels like this. We never had to search for a table. Other places I’ve been we’ve either had to wait or take the food to our room. Food was pretty good and decent variety – cereals, toast, bagels, English muffin, waffle machines, eggs, yogurt, fruit and oatmeal. Rotated a few items throughout the week including … pancakes, sausage patties, potatoes, sausage, egg and peppers scramble (I really like this!) Beverages included milk, juices and coffee, which was actually pretty good! They did have a dinner on a few of the nights, but we missed them.
Overall, service was wonderful. Front desk was always helpful and the servers in the buffet area were extremely friendly. I was there on Mother’s Day and everyone we passed wished me a Happy Mother’s Day.
I didn’t use the workout room because I did enough walking to make up for it, but it was a decent size and had a good selection of machines / weights. Did use the indoor pool once. There is a also a hot tub. Right outside the pool is a nice outdoor patio area with a BBQ.
While the location was great for getting to the museums, metro, etc. I can understand what other reviewers have said - there is not a lot in the area for dinner. This really wasn't a problem for us as we had picked out some great places to eat throughout the city, but I could see where this could be a downside for some.
Overall a great stay. I would definitely return and recommend this to family and friends!
