“Very pleased”

My wife and I spent a long weekend away in DC without the kids and stayed at the Hampton for 2 nights. We were very pleased. The common areas and rooms are clean and fresh. From our top-floor room we had a view of the Washington Monument. The continental breakfast was your typical Hampton hot breakfast -- which is to say well-done with good variety (eggs, french toast, waffles, breads, muffins, cereals, oatmeal, fruit, juices). The location is good, provided you stay south of Massachusetts Ave. The area deteriorates right past the hotel if you continue up 6th Street. If you stay south, you are fine. About a block south is Chinatown. If you head over a block to 7th Street and head south, there are a bunch of nice bars and restaurants. The Chinatown/Galley Metro station is 3 blocks away at 7th and H Streets -- about a 5 minute walk -- which makes it easy to get to most places in the city with relative ease and minimal expense. We got a terrific rate, presumably because late January is low season, which made the hotel a great value.

“A very good value for Washington DC”

Had the pleasure of staying here over the MLK Jr. Weekend. The hotel is well-kept, has nice guestrooms, and has a staff that is well versed in quality customer service, especially the two ladies who were working the free continental breakfast downstairs. Unfortunately I cannot remember their names except that they both started with M, but they were awesome.

DC is a very walkable city and this hotel keeps you right in the action. It is a few blocks north of Chinatown and the Verizon Center and only about a ten to fifteen minute walk down to Pennsylvania Avenue and all that area has to offer. Given its general location, this hotel is certainly an excellent value for DC.

“Fine location and good value”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2012

Pleasant staff and ideally located near the Capitol and museums -- easy 10 min walk. The room and public areas are a bit worn and in need of sprucing up. Good restaurants a few blocks away on 7th St. OK breakfast (skip the scrambled eggs) and plenty of good coffee. My only issue was that room 216, supposedly a king suite upgrade, had a view of the trashcans next door and is right next to the fitness center/pool. The door locks are within 18 inches of one another, so every time anyone went into the pool area, it sounded as though someone was messing with the door to 216. NOT restful. I would go with an upper floor upgrade next time.

Room Tip: Definitely go for the upper floors.

“friendly staff, comfortable rooms, great free breakfast!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2012

I stayed here one night during a work trip and got a great AAA rate. The staff was very friendly and, as requested, I was given a quiet room on an upper floor. There were cookies and candy canes (twas the season at the time) at the front desk at certain hours. The "continental breakfast" was better than most offered at hotels and included herbed eggs that tasted fresh and were delicious. The coffee (something important to me) was great as well. The location of the hotel is near the convention center and Chinatown which is known for great restaurants, etc. The hotel is also within walking distance of some notable attractions as well. The valet parking fee and tax was the only thing I found objectionable (though this is a common problem in D.C.)

Room Tip: ask for quiet room on a higher floor
