“Great Location, beautiful house, could use some improvements”

My fiance and I recently stayed here while visiting family in DC. Great location close to both the Dupont Circle and Woodley-Park metro stops. The staff is friendly and helpful, and breakfast was timely and delicious. My fiance and I traveled lightly for our short stay in the area, so I skipped bringing my standard toiletries of soap, shampoo and conditioner, hoping that the b&b would provide something decent so I would not need to haul around liquids on the flight. Not so. The available toiletries left much to be desired. I ended up stopping by a drugstore to pick up some usable shampoo, conditioner and soap to make our stay comfortable. Also, one of the towels in our private bath had two large threadbare patches. My fiance and I are seasoned travelers and are aware that not every b&b will provide hotel-style ammenities. However, threadbare towels are just not acceptable to hand out to paying guests. Vamp up the bathroom toiletries, ditch the old towels and this place would be perfect.

“Personal Touch, Great Value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 June 2011

I stayed here 2 nights recently and loved it. I am on a tight budget and the rooms with shared bath offer great value for a city with often pricey lodging. Breakfast is made to order and you eat around a large table family-style. It was an engaging, eclectic crowd. The Phillips Collection museum and DuPont Metro station are just a few blocks away.

“A little DC gem”

I recently spent a couple of nights here, and was worried that it might have been a little 'chintzy', given the pictures on the website, but I was pleasantly surprised to find a quaint old building with a nice sense of style (the building itself is from the early 1900s).

Firstly, this is an inn, not a hotel, so don't expect a member of staff to be there 24/7 to wait on you hand and foot. Having said that, I found the staff very helpful, offering to carry my bags, getting me a glass of water when I arrived (it was a hot June day!), and general politeness. The rooms are small by American standards, but of a reasonable size compared with those in European cities. Be sure to browse the welcome pack in your room, and the visitor's guide folder thing at the entrance to the inn (I can't remember what it was called exactly) which has a list of local places to eat and drink.

Unless you've got light luggage or feel up for a challenge, I'd suggest taking a taxi from Dupont Circle metro to the Taft Bridge Inn, since with it being on a bit of a hill, it can be quite a hike with a suitcase, even if its only about 10 minutes away on foot.

I felt that the inn was a little bit expensive, but considering the other DC hotels I looked at, it is probably good value for money.

Pros:
Friendly staff
Nice Breakfast
Clean and tidy
Free Wireless
Close to the metro and the Dupont Circle area (about 10 minutes walk downhill, bit longer uphill)
A living room area where guests can gather.

Cons:
Noisy/old AC (this can be worse depending on what room you stay in, I stayed in room 22 which is probably the closest to the stairwell AC, but I still managed to sleep).
Somewhat up a hill!

“My go-to place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 June 2011

I travel on business to DC on a fairly regular basis and have stayed in numerous B&B’s in DC over the years, The Taft Bridge Inn has become my go-to place. If this is any indication many of their clientele are like me and come back over and over again.

The staff and owner are great. Being I have stayed there many times I am greeted by folks who know my name and are always friendly and accommodating.

Rooms are very clean – unique, quiet and comfortable. Generally I do not sleep very well on the road however at the Taft Bridge Inn I sleep as well as I do at home – mattresses are firm and in good shape.

Many B&B’s do not have TV’s in the rooms – but the Taft does which is nice after a day of work.

Breakfast is great. You can basically order eggs how you like and they have excellent homemade granola along with several other choices as well. Note: Breakfast is served at one big table so conversation generally follows… up to you if you do or do not like this kind of thing.

Location is good and in a very nice and quiet neighborhood only downside it is a bit of a walk to the Metro – DuPont Circle or Woodley Park - Not too bad …but when it is 100 degrees it would be nice to be a bit closer. But you are very close to Adams Morgan for many excellent dinner choices.

Price is reasonable and if you are looking to save you can get a room with a shared bath.

I have stopped attempting to find another place to stay in DC. The Taft Bridge Inn fits the bill.

“Great value and very stylish”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 November 2010

Taft was a lovely surprise. We were expecting something on the budget end of hotels in DC yet the Taft was fantastic. The website doesn't do the rooms justice. Really stylish boutique decor at an affordable price. We found it a walkable distance from downtown and near funky Adams Morgan. The rooms were quiet and beds comfy. We opted for shared bathroom and it was the nicest bathroom we've had! Also a great breakfast too.
