“Decent 4 star hide-away”

Melrose is tucked away right on the edge of George Washington university and is about a 5 min walk or so from the metro. The great thing about this location is it's about a 10 min walk from Georgetown and all the great shops and restauraunts. The king room was great in size. Nicely appointed with a sitting chair, desk, flat screen, we also requested a room with a mini fridge and microwave which was in a nice little wet bar style area. My one negative is that they utilize a pipe system for heating and although it was chilly, when the air was set on 60 degrees it still blew hot air, and we had to keep the window open and the air on about 65 in order to keep it comfortable.

Other than that it was a nice hotel and couldn't beat the deal found on expedia for the price for location and amenities.

Thank you for staying at The Melrose Hotel. I appreciate your feedback and glad you were able to experience all of the benefits fo the Melrose, with it's great service, spacious guest rooms and central location. On your next visit I would encourage you to visit our restaurant, "Landmark" and choose from a variety of hand crafted American entrees. I look forward to your next visit.

“Rip off pet friendly”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012 via mobile

Checked into this hotel only to find out I would have to pay a $100 pet deposit. I assumed that since it was a deposit I would get it back if there was no damage left to the room.the next morning received the bill with a $100 "miscellaneous fee". I spoke to the manager the next day to request my deposit to be refunded. He said it was not refundable. I argued it is not a deposit if it is not refundable. It is a fee and should have been disclosed on the website, which it was not. Do not stay here unless you want to get ripped off.parking was $40 per night and pet deposit (fee) is not refundable.the manager was a total waste of time and very unhelpful. Left this hotel feeling ripped off. Spend your money somewhere else. I will never go back to this hotel.

I am sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your stay at the Melrose due to the pet fee. As I mentioned to you at the day of check out, I was at the desk when you and your wife checked in and I personally witnessed the desk associate explain to you that the deposit was non- refundable in which you agreed. In regards to the valet charge, we do have one of the lowest parking rates in the Georgetown area. I would like you to contact me personally so that we can discuss your visit in more detail.

“Perfect Location in Lovely Georgetown”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

I thought this was a great hotel. Clean, spacious rooms, friendly staff, GREAT location and price, also it is pet friendly!! If we go to Georgetown again, we will for sure stay here. Only downfall, the walls are thin, so you do hear people in the next room if they are talking loudly. Our neighbors were at 7am on a Sunday. We called the front desk and they handled it promptly and we were able to go right back to sleep. There are plenty of good restaurants, shopping, and coffee shops close by, all walking distance. We were only a few blocks away from the metro, which was nice. We also got a great rate and had drinks in The Library in the lobby.

Thank you for taking the time to fill out a guest review and I am glad to hear that you enjoyed your time at the Melrose. I am glad that you experienced the Library Bar and hope that you were able to enjoy one if it's famous martinis. On your next visit to the Melrose, please try the Landmark Restaurant located on the lobby level. I look forward to meeting you on your next visit to the Melrose.

“Ditched”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

After traveling all day I arrived to find they had given my room away. They booked me in another room of their sister property the "Churchill". The room as NOT what I paid for. I had to wait for the room to be cleaned and readied. When I finally got in it I realized it was a smoking room and it reeked. They told me that's all they had and I was stuck with it. I slept with the windows open because I'm sensitive to the smoke. I froze all night long and was repeatedly woken up by sirens. I woke the next morning with bloodshot eyes and a migraine from the smoke. I will never stay at this property or any of their sister properties again.

I want to apologize for the overbooking and the service shortcoming you experienced at the Churchill. There were some unforeseen circumstances that put the hotel in an oversell situation. Please contact me directly at the hotel as I would like to invite you back as my guest for the issues you encountered at the sister property.

“Listen to these Reviews”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

Perhaps we should listen to these reviews. We arrived for our reservation after traveling all day to find that they had overbooked and had no room for us. And they would send us to another hotel, and pay for one night, but then expect us to move and come back. I have never had this happen before. We will never come here again.
