“Typical Ritz Experience - great service and comfortable”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 February 2012

Pros - This is your typical Ritz hotel. Attentive/friendly service, understated traditional decor with clean/comfortable rooms. Bathroom here was particularly large. Attached restaurant was a upscale bistro type setup and the food was perfectly fine if a bit over priced for what it was. Plenty of places to eat within 10 blocks. Nearest Metro stop was about 4 blocks away - same for bike rental. The Capital Mall, Georgetown and Downtown were all walk-able from the Ritz. Doorman had a running route and bottles of water ready for us each morning (nice touch).

Cons - Bit bit more pricey than the average DC hotel. We also had a large cockroach in our bathroom one morning (killed it). This has never happened to us ever, at any other hotel, Ritz or otherwise. I find it interesting now given that there are a few mentions of insect related issues in some of the reviews. Building seems rather new...so not sure what is going on there.

Over all, for the right price, I would gladly stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for something facing the courtyard to avoid traffic noise.

“Outstanding”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

This is a great Ritz Carlton property. The room was great and the staff was outstanding. I arrived early and they ensured I had a place to work, charge my Blackberry, etc. Absolutely flawless delivery of service. The location is not the most convenient to downtown activities, but if the location is not an issue for you, this is the place to stay.

“A Comfortable Hotel with Excellent Service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

I traveled to Washington DC for two nights to attend a meeting at the Ritz Carlton in February 2012. Overall, the hotel was very nice--attentive staff, large and luxurious room, and great meeting facilities.

I arrived late in the evening. I took the Metro to get to the hotel. The Foggy Bottom Metro stop is very close to the Ritz, maybe about 3 blocks. The check-in process was swift and the front desk attendant (Mr. King) was superb. I found the room to be quiet, comfortable, and very relaxing. They had already turned down my room for the night, and a soft video of a fire was playing on the television--nice touch!

The bed was firm and cozy with very nice linens. I slept very well during my stay! The bathroom was large with plenty of counterspace. A hairdryer is available. The shower and tub are separate. I didn't care for the showerhead because I felt that the water pressure was decreased with it, and couldn't find a way to concentrate the flow. Very soft and large towels.

I must applaud them for their meeting set-up. We had a medium sized group and took up one smaller ballroom. The service provided for the meeting (food, facility, coffee, snacks, etc) was outstanding. The lunch and breakfasts were delicious and more than I normally expect.

The hotel is only about a mile away from the Lincoln Memorial. There are numerous restaurants very close by to choose from. As I mentioned, the Foggy Bottom Metro stop is very near as well. After my meeting adjourned, I walked to the Lincoln Memorial, then through the Mall to the Holocaust museum, then took the Metro back to Foggy Bottom. While it was a good long walk, it was totally doable.

At the time of departure, my check-out was very fast. The door and bell staff were so helpful, and I was quickly on my way by taxi to Reagan airport, which was only a $15.00 cab fee away!

I would definitely stay here again if I return to Washington DC. The rate was actually lower than many other "luxury hotels" in the area, but I still felt well taken-care-of and quite pampered. Overall, I think this hotel is a great value--you pay a little less, and still get the outstanding Ritz-Carlton service.

“Short, overnight business jaunt”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

A brief trip to DC on short-notice prompted me to select a hostelry I'd not previously patronized since the Willard was not available. Well situated and with a good reputation for a chain, the Ritz-Carlton became the target. Nothing grandiose architecturally, simply well-appointed, very accommodating staff (doormen, desk, concierge). No need for Wi-Fi with my iPad and Android phone. Brief but very satisfying experience. Will repeat.

“Sure it would be lovely, but had problems”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

After arriving 6 hours late, at midnight, I checked into the hotel for a one night stay. Was frustrated that iHome clock was stuck on dim, one hour off, and would not play my iPod to sleep by. Chain to lock the door was broken. Manager called my office to apologize. Wireless worked in my room, but same passcode did not work in meeting room. Everything else was fine.
