“Pricey without deals - Minimalist; No Bells or Whistles.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2012

My traveling companion found an excellent deal for this room. Originally $300, he booked for a mere $120! I would say it's worth more the latter price than the former.

The atmosphere is posh, the decor is clearly carefully chosen, and the artwork was aesthetically pleasing in the room. That said, there was atrocious construction outside the main entrance, so much that we had to call to find out how to enter the parking garage and actual building. The elevators had signs that said they were out of service, however we were shocked to be told that they were working fine later the next morning. Pragmatically speaking, these issues are more than likely temporary, so it may not apply to all that read this review.

What you get for the money: the wifi is not free, the coffee lacks extras such as cream and sugar, view isn't special (mostly courtyard, depending on your location), tv is negligible, but there are materials to iron clothes, the shower water pressure is wonderful, there is an in-room safe (programmable by several different methods to secure and open), and the beds are so comfortable it's easy to oversleep.

The staff was very professional and helpful, and we had no problems with them.

As far as proximity to fun things, this is not the greatest location. If you have a student here, this is an excellent place to stay the night.

“Conference Spot”

Check in: Excellent. The staff was wonderful and let us into our rooms early.
Room Condition: Fair to good. Bathroom was old and very, very small. Bed was excellent. Television did not have "many" typical cable channels. Coffee pot for room: fine but lacked enough extras like sugar. The room was a bit small overall. Location of Hotel: Very good if your business is at Georgetown. However it's location is poor in terms the rest of DC. There is no public transportation on weekends. You have to walk across Keybridge to get to DC and Metro. The hotel lacks restaurants or other food options. There is a "Panera Bread" and a Starbucks. It is difficult to get to if you are driving. Overall, I would stay again if there was a conference but I would go elsewhere if I were just visiting friends or family.

“staff not helpful”

i had a terrible stay at this hotel. so frustrated that for the first time, i am doing a review on a hotel. i travel frequently for work and pleasure and have stayed at countless hotels (including st. gregory and mayflower while in DC) and have NEVER been this mistreated by such an inexperienced staff. the only positive experience during the stay was that one of the housekeeping staff was very nice.

1. while making the reservation, i asked if wifi was complimentary since it wasn't clear on the website. the lady said, yes it's complimentary. however, during check-in, the lady at the front desk smiled and shook her head, no, it's $9.95 for 24 hours.

2. for convenience, i stayed at the hotel because of my knee surgery at the hospital next door. during my stay after my surgery, part of the bathroom handrail by the toilet collapsed while i was getting up from the toilet. i fell and severely bruised my hip and a got a small bruise on my face when i landed on the floor. when we informed them of the incident, they only apologized and sent their staff to fix it. they asked if we wanted to switch rooms but that was out of the question with knee surgery days ago - i was extremely exhausted and couldn't walk. i didn't have the energy to pack up and unpack again. they did not offer anything else for the inconvenience besides a 'sorry'.

3. during check-out, the front desk said they would have to charge us a $250 fee for smoking in the room. we do not smoke. apparently, the security guy smelled smoke as we were leaving our room to check-out. we were very upset with the accusation. the lady at the front desk (name starts with an O) said she would go to the room to check. mins later, she and the security guy come down and the she said they didn't find ashes so they would not charge us anything. she could barely utter an apology to us.

4. we asked for a late check out and the best they could do was 1 extra hour. anything after that would be 'an additional charge'. during that 1 extra hour, housekeeping knocked FOUR TIMES - once every 10 to 15 minutes...'housekeeping'. each time, we told them that we are checking out at 12.

5. after we checked out, we called to speak with the assistant manager about how dissatisfied we were with our stay and upset with the accusation. they promised to look into it and would have the manager call us back to talk about it - no call back, surprise surprise.

overall, STAY AWAY from this hotel. they are rude and inexperienced and will try to nickel and dime you for everything. the hotel itself is clean but the people are TERRIBLE.

“An "OK" place”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 October 2011

I stayed here for a conference. I would say right away there are several issues with this hotel. First if you are tourist, this is not the place to stay. This place isright in front of a hospital and in the middle of a campus. Nothing is easy to get to. Second, this is one of the old hotels that still manage to charge extra for internet! This is ridiculous, it's 2011 people get with it!!! In addition, the place has a "gym" and I use this term loosely.....it's an old hotel room where they put an eliptical and some weights. Who heard of a gym with no treadmill?? The rooms are average and you can tell they have tried to renovate them but they are still older. The last issue I have is that the "customer service" at the front desk is lacking. When I checked in I was given my key, that was it. No direction to my room, no things about the hotel, nothing........In addition, staff at desk not very friendly. I would walk by the desk and get no "hello" or "how are you". All in all, I travel frequently and would suggest choosing another hotel.

“Very nice room”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2011

I stayed here for a conference and have to say the room was very nice and comfortable. The beds were heavenly! Everything seemed very clean and modern and attractive. My only complaint was no fridge in the room. The service was great, though. They were good about checking me in quickly and calling me a taxi the morning I left. They also brought me a hair dryer when the one in the room wasn't working. The gentleman even seemed surprised when I tipped him! A nice stay overall.
