“OK...not great”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

I stayed about a year ago to visit a friend who had recently moved to DC and I was not to excited when I left. The hotel is honestly just for sleeping purposes. You can tell that they cater to business travelers more because they are very quick and unmemorable. They do not try to establish a connection. I like t travel and in most places I meet at least one person. Here, not at all. I had a few drinks at the bar, again quick and easy. Had a burger, which was good, fries were seasoned with some garlic. Very good. One good thing is they are close to a club nearby which was convenient to me. The hotel is very clean and quiet. At the end of the day, probably wouldn't go back unless I get a great rate.

“Definitely not 4 stars”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

I stayed at the Westin over the weekend. It was an overall okay experience, but for a hotel that bills itself as "4 stars in Dupont Circle", it wasn't four stars and it certainly wasn't in Dupont Circle.

My room was #523, a handicapped room. The room was decent enough but the bathroom was terrible. The closet had plenty of hangers and a working safe, but the dresser had a refrigerator that wasn't working. The room looked out over the atrium/lobby, which had no light and thus was like a little tomb. Not a big deal because I was in DC to be in DC, not to sit in my hotel room. The carpet was torn in some spots, the wallpaper was coming off the walls by the door and the ottoman didn't match the chair. Not a big deal, but definitely not four stars. The staff was great, however. Definitely four stars.

More than once I noticed room service trays sitting outside of a few doors by the elevators for over 6 hours. I shared the elevator twice with women who looked like they were visiting there for a few hours (no judgments, but definitely made me wonder...). Once, early in the morning, I observed someone passed out and snoring in the chairs by the elevators on my floor. Definitely not four stars. On my last night, I was awoken at 2:30 by someone yelling from the atrium below. I figured it was a teenager or something and went back to bed. At 3:30 I could still hear the yelling, and I called the front desk. They said they were handling it. I tried to go back to sleep but by 4:30 the yelling only got louder and this time there were more voices. Finally by 5:30 it had stopped. Again, not a four star experience, and definitely not the "heavenly" sleep experience that Westin prides themselves on.

Now the big question...will I be back? I travel to DC quite often, so while my stay wasn't horrible, with the overall condition of the facility, the random people coming in and out and the girl yelling in the lobby, the answer is no.

Room Tip: Ask for a street view...you'll get bigger windows and plenty of light. And avoid handicapped ro...

We stayed at the Westin on 01/13-01/15.. The lobby was nice. The bagage handlers were overly attentive and expected to be tipped. I think there were 4 men who came to help take our bags out of the car and another to bring it up to the room... a little excessive and a little off putting...all seem to be expecting a tip...The first room we got to was DIRTY with stained carpets and a cracked window...4 star?? We were moved to a higher floor exact same room except on the 9th floor. Room was small, furniture had scratches, fridge didnt work, no microwave. All that we could deal with....what happened next was unexceptable!!! Traveling with children ranging in age from 9-16 years.. The older ones decided they wanted to stay in for dinner while myself , my sister and 9 year old daughter went down stair to eat dinner. Our room was connected to the main atrium by a glass hall way that gives those walking through the opportunity to see right into rooms that have windows facing the atrium ...well as we were walking through my NINE YEAR OLD saw some thing in an above mentioned room that no nine year old should ever see!!!!this room had its SHADE down but the curtains open. We notified the front desk before eating dinner to insure that this would be taken care of before we returned from dinner to avoid any more disturbing images for my child. They said they would check it out and notify the occupants..Well before we went back up I went back to the front desk to make sure that things were corrected...only to be told that ,all the person they sent up to check saw a man in bed reading a book..but did not notify them that everyone could see in their room and that they should close their CURTAINS>>>.We later realized that from inside the room the curtains look opaque, but from out side they are see through...only after I suggested again to notify this "couple" did they finally notify them...Managements response to this traumatizing event for my daughter???? IF they could send up some ice cream????really... I feel bad for the couple that has no idea that their actions were on display for all to see....serious customer service deficiencies....Dirty with poor customer service! on a side note..Lynn the concierge was fantastic....hotel management should take some tips from her on Customer service...

Room Tip: Find somewhere else to stay or be sure to close your curtains!

“Ups and downs”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

The Westin DC City Center is a rather modest place. A bit rundown, the concierge could have been a former American Airlines flight attendant before (just guessing), and while the rooms themselves are furnished okay, the wallpaper and carpets could certainly use some TLC... Upon arrival, the receptionist was very nice. My GOLD status with SPG didn't get me anywhere when I checked in, that was a bit disappointing. Upon departure, the receptionist was the exact opposite. She was uncapable of reprintint the invoice with a different address, and promised to mail it. When I got it per mail, it still had the wrong address on it. I also found a "gift shop" position, a place I never even saw from the distance, over 5 USD. My call to get the credit went straight to a mailbox, my call-back request was never answered. Same goes for an e-mail I sent. It was never answered. It took two more calls and some more graphic language to get things settled. This is most annoying, when you have to waste much of your time to straighten things out that shouldn't have happen in the first place...

That's why I give this generally "ok" hotel with a good central location only three points.
