I was with my Cuban fiance for 3 days in Hotel Pernik.
De bold restaurant waiter was very lazy and is a liar. De young waitress (stagiair) at the bar outside did not want to help us. So we ordered our meal and drinks by the male senior waiter. After our meal the same youg waitress wanted us to pay twice! 80% of the hotel employees were not friendly. The airconditioning threw out water so the handwriitten book of my fiance was pourwet. next toour room were workers from 7 in the morning bouncing at the wall. the water of the shower was not very good.

Hotel Pernik
Spacious, clean, relaxed.... well worth the 34cuc. It has a very large pool.
The breakfast is included... simple, but tasty.
Downtown is a 20 min walk away.
If you don’t stay there, they charge $3 to use the pool, and give you a $2 credit at the bar.
From the airport, the official taxis are 17cuc, a quick scout of the parking lot gets 15cuc. A few refusals gets it down to 12cuc. We went back to the Airport for 10cuc.
From the Viazul terminal taxis start at 5cuc..a few refusals latter... it is 3cuc.
A bicitaxi for two people, with a single suitcase, is 60pesos [about the same].
At the Viazul terminal, I suggest to eat across the street at a booth (kiosk) (second from the right). They serve a tasty and generous, pork steak and rice for 20pesos. Take the special sauce. They provide a chair to sit on. There are no flies.... just pesky taxi drivers.

Cheap hotel with simple rooms. Once made for mass tourism meant for citizens from the former USSR. Rather heartless, but with a nice swimmingpool. Seems a good place for young people: 20 CUC/night/room. Even casas particulares are more expensive and at lower quality. I would recommend it to people travelling with a small purse. Remember: very basic.

Decent hotel. Cheap and easy to get to the city. Bathrooms have a bit to be desired and we had to call the front desk many times to get hot water... but overall good experience.
