“Awsome”

Just came back from the Sirenis Playa Turquesa. Go there. The resort was amazingly clean. Never seen garbage. The staff were exceptionally nice. Food, well there was nothing to complain about. There was always lots, hot and tasty. The a la cartes, We only went to one. That was enough for us. We did the oriental. It was different. Never had food like that before, but we left hungry. So we stuck to the buffet all week. The rooms. Perfect. Hot water all the time, no bugs, lights all worked. Security stood about every 200 feet on the resort at night. Everything was lit up perfectly. Would of been nice if we could night swim. Was hot sometimes at night. The excursions: Deep Sea was not worth it. We have done deep sea fishing twice before in Cayo Coco. There they follow these sea birds, that eat the bait fish off the surface of the water. They do that beacuse the big fish we are trying to catch eat them too. This boat did not follow the birds, just drove around the ocean. We also went bottom fishing. Worth every penny. 49 cuc's or 49.00 cad. We got on a bus, went down the road like 5 minutes. There we were. There were ostriches, and zebras there to take pics of. We go fishing and catch tons of different fish. Then we go back and they cook it for us to eat. Yum.
Met lots of nice people. Not much of a night life while we were there, Disco was pretty empty most nights. Nightly entertainment was good, you have to see the aquatic show in the pool. Very good. Went in to town to the market to shop, that was nice, bought some souviners, but did not go in to Holguin. Wanted to, but the resort messed up on the times for the bus. So if you want to go, Wait to the right of the resort entrance there is a sign says the times on it. Check for yourself. Would definatley go back. There are lots of stairs, but there are also lots of trails in the trees that bypass them. We took the trails, was faster and less stairs

Room Tip: You can upgrade when you arrive not sure how much, but it is available. Silver and Gold room options...

“Good room, great view.”

We stayed from 23rd Jan - 6th Feb 2012 and, like many people we spoke, to were concerned by the recent posts onTripadvisor even though we had stayed at this hotel three years ago.

We had a great holiday, our room was on the eastern edge of the hotel, it was spacious with a good balcony and views over the trees to the sea and breakers on the reef. We were woken by exotic bird calls and saw some of them from our balcony, including a pair of squabbling woodpeckers.

The hotel is large, more like a small town or village, with rooms in groups set in the trees. It was a ten minute walk to the bars and restaurants and again we saw many different birds as well as butterflies and lizards on our way for meals or drinks.

The food was OK with lots of choice to have freshly cooked at each meal. We thought the buffet was better than the a la cartes but we had really good fish at the Italian. The food highlight was the lobster meal on the beach, this cost 20CUC each but was well worth it. The bars serve excellent coffee. We had no problems with the hygiene of the staff or kitchens but did see worrying lapses by guests handling food instead of using tongs and even changing a baby's nappy in the bar and dumping the soiled one on the coffee table!

The beach is large enough to get away from any crowds, we ended up at the eastern end to get shelter from the wind which was a bit vicious at times and consequently and suprisingly for us we ended up taking part in the archery and volley ball and enjoying it. The Hobie Cats and pedalos were also good fun and we went on these most days. For an interesting walk go to the east of the hotel to the dolphinarium bay, the beach there is covered with conch and other shells we had never seen before.

The staff were friendly and helpful. We tipped when we wanted to but the service was good in whether you tipped or not.

We went on a trip to Cayo Saetia which is very beautiful and where you get a great lunch, we did a 3CUC horse ride which included a canter along the beach. We also went to Santaigo de Cuba which was very interesting and had old american cars as taxis to take us around, but it is a hard coach journey - three hours each way - and our coach had no toilet.

No problems with sand flies or mosquitoes but we would never travel in the tropics without taking precautions against these. We took Boots sun lotion and after sun with a combined anti insect ingredient that worked well. Our rep told us about the virus, which he said was not specific to any hotel, but we had no problems.

The only problem we encountered was that there were men using prostitutes in the hotel. The men would arrive first and then the girls (many of them worryingly young) would arrive. Although we raised the issue with our rep and knew of others who raised it with the hotel, management claim there is nothing can be done. They need to take a hard line on this issue. Its a family hotel but some one is facilitating this. They could simply refuse to let girls stay unless they have flown in with the men. This would appear to be a problem for Cuba rather than just this hotel.

“Perfect - even in the rain!”

Poured down a couple of days while we were here but still absolutely fab!!
Room was just perfect, pools for everyone, cocktails very more-ish, food brilliant considering the rest of Cuba are still rationed. Desert Island trip on the catamaran was ace - totally tropical!
Staff were fantastico - especially Yamir at the Sports Bar and Lily on entertainment crew. My daughters fell in love with her and we still keep in touch. If anyone is going out there, send her my love!!

“very average holiday”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

We were at the Sirenis playa Turquesa between the 18th of Jan and the 1st of Feb. The beach and Pools were fantastic . The rooms only avereage and the food was a bit on the poor side . This is our 3rd visit to Cuba over the last 8years and we have found that the staff were slightly less helpful than they used to be and more geared towards tips . Such a shame as most people leave substantial tips anyway. Breakfast was quite often the worst meal of the day and they quite often ran out of bread.Even though they know things ran out they took ages to refil. Apparently the hotel is changing to a RIU Group .Not sure if that will make any difference. I wouldnt say not to go there but the hotel Playa Pesquaro is so much nicer. We stayed there last time .

“my first visit and you reviewers were wrong it was AMAZING”

first off it must have sucked to have gotten so sick at the resort but from what I heard most people who got to see the doctor didn't listen to him and went straight back into drinking.I also found out that the doctor usually charges 25 pesos to have him see you, he charged noone during that outbreak....... forgot to mention that didn't ya... For all who read what was said prior in the beging of January it was even mentioned in a review that the sickness was only on the resort the locals were fine.... and the resorts are the ones with filtered water. Beyond all that like the last reviewer said "it was norwalk people!" we brought it to some cruise ships too, don't blame Serinis.
As for the rumour of them going bankrupt or selling looks like Rio may have bought out Serinis this isn't a need to worry, it is if anything going to go from a 4 and a half star resort to a 6 star resort.
The safes..... well I let my brother in law know about that and he looked up the different generic codes for the safe on that brand since him and my husband worked on safes for many years they tried those codes none of them opened it, he also asked reception what happens if I forget my code how do I get in my safe. they replied we have to call in a expert from Veradero to drill it out. When we were there I did notice that as we left our room sometimes the door didn't always shut properly I had to reach back to make sure it latched. the other thing I almost did my self while using the safe was to leave with the code punched in and didn't press lock so if you don't press lock it doesn't and your code is there for anyone to see. I do feel compassion for those who were robbed however I think there could have been a tourist on the loose. looking for said mistakes. who knows anyway our trip was fabulous from the moment the bus pulled up to the moment the bus pulled away.
For any people concerned on anything they should know while visiting you need to seek out Louraine from Naula tours she is Canadian lives in Quebec 6 months and in Cuba 6 months. what She has to say is very helpfull. I have a shellfish allergy don't assume just because you think the Cubans know what your saying sometimes means they know always. she had somome write a note in spanish that said I am alleric to shellfish and I showed it to any chef or person with a white hat at the buffet they told me what to not touch. when we booked our alacart's the lady booking it at the computer seen my note and all the alacarte restaurants knew before we showed up that I had that allergy. the one waiter even explained his mom had the same allergy and my steak was cooked in a whole new pan. My husband and I were so thankfull for the care they put into me not needing an epi pen this trip. I believe once I got there and had a chance to look around that the pictures that have been posted do not do this place justice. I loved the entertainment it was amazing these people are really good at what they do remeber it is their life 6 months out of the year. for those who said the entertainment was OK what the heck are you used to seeing cirque de sole they dance in shoes we would throw out and they show no pain. good luck to you doing water ballet sir. they had everyone very happy a full show everynight .. OH and if you need money from the bank guess what you need to stand in line and yes you need your passport I watched a guy who reamed her out because he had to stand in line and because he didn't have his passport with him when he went in I wanted to kick him. Do not expect to see a clock anywhere when you are there you are in Cuba time no one really cares what time it is, there is no time, however if you can't live without knowing it bring a watch.
Internet is not always working so if you have people who want to know you made it tell them to watch the news cause you might not be able to send an email for a few days but when it is working it worked well. One more thing we went on two of the excursions inside cuba and paradise island, they were worth every penny when you start to think this is a little expensive think how much would this cost me at home.... WAY MORE... I have some advice though for all travellers and this is very important bring diariah meds and gravol and advil (diarriah might happen it goes away) gravol (sun stroke happened to me and my husband as well as motion sickness) advil (when you drink to much ...nuff said) I can't wait to go again and I hope to see my favorite peeps there too.
