“Perfect - even in the rain!”

Poured down a couple of days while we were here but still absolutely fab!!
Room was just perfect, pools for everyone, cocktails very more-ish, food brilliant considering the rest of Cuba are still rationed. Desert Island trip on the catamaran was ace - totally tropical!
Staff were fantastico - especially Yamir at the Sports Bar and Lily on entertainment crew. My daughters fell in love with her and we still keep in touch. If anyone is going out there, send her my love!!

“very average holiday”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

We were at the Sirenis playa Turquesa between the 18th of Jan and the 1st of Feb. The beach and Pools were fantastic . The rooms only avereage and the food was a bit on the poor side . This is our 3rd visit to Cuba over the last 8years and we have found that the staff were slightly less helpful than they used to be and more geared towards tips . Such a shame as most people leave substantial tips anyway. Breakfast was quite often the worst meal of the day and they quite often ran out of bread.Even though they know things ran out they took ages to refil. Apparently the hotel is changing to a RIU Group .Not sure if that will make any difference. I wouldnt say not to go there but the hotel Playa Pesquaro is so much nicer. We stayed there last time .

“my first visit and you reviewers were wrong it was AMAZING”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

first off it must have sucked to have gotten so sick at the resort but from what I heard most people who got to see the doctor didn't listen to him and went straight back into drinking.I also found out that the doctor usually charges 25 pesos to have him see you, he charged noone during that outbreak....... forgot to mention that didn't ya... For all who read what was said prior in the beging of January it was even mentioned in a review that the sickness was only on the resort the locals were fine.... and the resorts are the ones with filtered water. Beyond all that like the last reviewer said "it was norwalk people!" we brought it to some cruise ships too, don't blame Serinis.
As for the rumour of them going bankrupt or selling looks like Rio may have bought out Serinis this isn't a need to worry, it is if anything going to go from a 4 and a half star resort to a 6 star resort.
The safes..... well I let my brother in law know about that and he looked up the different generic codes for the safe on that brand since him and my husband worked on safes for many years they tried those codes none of them opened it, he also asked reception what happens if I forget my code how do I get in my safe. they replied we have to call in a expert from Veradero to drill it out. When we were there I did notice that as we left our room sometimes the door didn't always shut properly I had to reach back to make sure it latched. the other thing I almost did my self while using the safe was to leave with the code punched in and didn't press lock so if you don't press lock it doesn't and your code is there for anyone to see. I do feel compassion for those who were robbed however I think there could have been a tourist on the loose. looking for said mistakes. who knows anyway our trip was fabulous from the moment the bus pulled up to the moment the bus pulled away.
For any people concerned on anything they should know while visiting you need to seek out Louraine from Naula tours she is Canadian lives in Quebec 6 months and in Cuba 6 months. what She has to say is very helpfull. I have a shellfish allergy don't assume just because you think the Cubans know what your saying sometimes means they know always. she had somome write a note in spanish that said I am alleric to shellfish and I showed it to any chef or person with a white hat at the buffet they told me what to not touch. when we booked our alacart's the lady booking it at the computer seen my note and all the alacarte restaurants knew before we showed up that I had that allergy. the one waiter even explained his mom had the same allergy and my steak was cooked in a whole new pan. My husband and I were so thankfull for the care they put into me not needing an epi pen this trip. I believe once I got there and had a chance to look around that the pictures that have been posted do not do this place justice. I loved the entertainment it was amazing these people are really good at what they do remeber it is their life 6 months out of the year. for those who said the entertainment was OK what the heck are you used to seeing cirque de sole they dance in shoes we would throw out and they show no pain. good luck to you doing water ballet sir. they had everyone very happy a full show everynight .. OH and if you need money from the bank guess what you need to stand in line and yes you need your passport I watched a guy who reamed her out because he had to stand in line and because he didn't have his passport with him when he went in I wanted to kick him. Do not expect to see a clock anywhere when you are there you are in Cuba time no one really cares what time it is, there is no time, however if you can't live without knowing it bring a watch.
Internet is not always working so if you have people who want to know you made it tell them to watch the news cause you might not be able to send an email for a few days but when it is working it worked well. One more thing we went on two of the excursions inside cuba and paradise island, they were worth every penny when you start to think this is a little expensive think how much would this cost me at home.... WAY MORE... I have some advice though for all travellers and this is very important bring diariah meds and gravol and advil (diarriah might happen it goes away) gravol (sun stroke happened to me and my husband as well as motion sickness) advil (when you drink to much ...nuff said) I can't wait to go again and I hope to see my favorite peeps there too.

“THE GOOD, THE BAD, THE UGLEY”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

Stayed 24 to 31 Jan. 2012
I had booked the Village section through Holasun. The Village section is shut-down and no longer in use. I was put in the 700 blocks.

THE GOOD: The resort is delightful, with well maintained grounds, pools, beach and buildings. Though the layout of the complex is spread out, every thing is a 5 to 10 Min. walk from your room. The walks are enjoyable, in pleasant surroundings. The beach is fantastic especially for children. The off shore reef protects the beach from waves driven by the wind. Also the water is reasonable shallow, for children to play, and still deep enough to allow swimming. The reef is reachable by paddle boat for snorkelling. Though the reef is approximately 300 meters off shore, in my experience, the water between the shore and the reef is only neck deep. The maids’ towel art was really good. The demographic of the guests is older retired people and families. This results in a quit resort with little parting going on.

THE BAD: If you want a part resort, this isn’t it. The water temperature in the room is only temperate at best in the morning. I found if you shower at night there is plenty of hot water. The room maid was less attentive to detail than other Cuban resorts I have stayed in. Dust bunnies etc. accumulated under the beds. A spot on the bathroom floor, that was there when I arrived, I wiped up the day I left. The surface areas of the room and the linens were taking care of daily. There are no blackout curtains in the rooms so, if light bothers you, you are up with the sun.

THE UGLY: I was short changed at the resorts convenience store. When I pointed it out to the clerk started to argue, though the change was still on the counter in front of her. As it was only $0.70 I let it good. Either she couldn’t make change or she was just blatantly dishonest. I got food poising the second morning there. Four other guests that I was aware off came down with the same thing at the same time. I went to Guest Services to inform them they may have a problem in food handling. The lady I spoke to got quite upset and informed me that if I haven’t seen the hotel doctor that I didn’t have food poising. I told her I wasn’t making a complaint I was just informing them of a potential problem that maybe should be addressed. She got quite belligerent about there been no food poising or problem, so I left. I am assuming that maybe my problem stemmed from eggs. The reason I say this is when I was about again I took a wrong turn and wound up in the receiving area. This was about 5:30 P.M. and a pile of eggs for the next day was setting on a shelf in the sun with a temperature of about 23 Deg. C. I’m not saying that this resorts food is any more unsafe then others. Of the 100s of guests only five, I am aware off, had a problem. My concern is there will be no improvement with the attitude of the resorts responsible staff.

“Just returned”

Hi,

This is my first review but am an avid reader of the website. Have just returned (Feb 9th) from our third stay at the SPT. My husband and I had a great time, me with a book and the sun and he with all the activities available.
I wanted to highlight a few things from last year, I found the cleanliness of the hotel better than last year, and last year I thought it was fine. The selection of foods was better, yeah for the new toasters and the precooked bacon at breakfast.
A special thanks to a few of the staff who remembered us each year, to Orlan in the front lobby and disco, thanks for the great drinks and involving my husband in the baseball game, he had a blast! To Ronnie at the tennis courts, thank you for playing with my husband each day, he really enjoyed it and I enjoyed not having to play!
The return dinner was very enjoyable, we will be returning next year.

Kim

Room Tip: rooms to the east of the pools are quieter
