Not a bad hotel at all. The rooms were great, and clean, and it was lovely to be staying in the country away from a city centre, within lovely, well cared for grounds. The staff were really friendly, and only too pleased to help when we arrived at 7am from the overnight Viazul bus from Santiago.

It was quite a pleasant walk into Trinidad and it wasn't too taxing - a great excuse to stop for a drink at one of the lovely cafes in the town.

My only grumbles were the quality of the mattress, which was a bit thin and lumpy [but not the end of the world], and the number of cats and dogs wandering round the restaurant while we were eating. Again, not the end of the world, but the staff did nothing to remove them, and the minute we turned our backs, they were on the chairs and tables, eating the leftovers!!

Great value for money, and overall a very positive experience!

This was definitely one of the better hotels in Cuba. The location and hut layout of the hotel was brilliant! The room was clean and modern though the electrics appeared pretty suspect. I am not normally queasy about such things.

It is a reasonable walk from the hotel to town but generally I enjoyed it. I am sure taxis are easily booked if walking is not for you.

The food was actually very good by Cuba standards.

Generally it made up for a rather boring and disappointing Trinidad. I could have stopped for an hour on the bus and seen the town!

The pool was empty which was a shame as I could have used a dunk to chill off.

This bungalow hotel is located just before Trinidad, coming from the Cienfuegos highway. There was guarded car parking (paid the guy 1 CUC). The hotel looks like a farm.

We had a comfortable one-night stay. The bungalows are decent, ok airco, ok beds, small kitchen, small bathroom. Pool is small but cute, with a kids play area.

Dinner in the outside restaurant was simple and tasted so-so (typically Cuban!). Breakfast was even more simple, mainly fruit and eggs. Many dogs and cats walking around the restaurant and begging for food, which can be annoying.

Since it's rural, there are a lot of animals and insects (scorpions, spiders, lots and lots of bugs and mosquitoes), which of course get into the room as well.

A hidden gem:
The Villa Horizontes MaDolores, just outside Trinidad, Cuba, is a hidden gem. With individual and duplex style bungalows, in a lush tropical setting, you start your day greeted with fresh blossoms on the trees and shrubs outside your door. The site is very well maintained and the tree surrounded swimming pool has lots of shade and sunny locations. The kids enjoy playing on the stone horse and the pool shower is a work of art. This location can be a local stop on a tour of the island or a quiet getaway just to relax. The nearby nature park, El Cubano, with its network of trails, offers a challenge to hikers and horseback riders alike. Nearby Trinidad has very interesting buildings and architecture and a well attended local market. It is also a good starting point to visit the waterfalls and park at Topes de Collantes.
Food at MaDolores, with various meal plans available on request, is Cuban style, with generous portions. Beverages, other than morning coffee and juice, are not included. The dining area is comfortably small, but tables on the outside edge can be subject to rain effect if the sidewalls are not lowered quickly during their downpours. That will soon be rectified as their new restaurant, bar, kitchen and entertainment area is under construction. Once completed, it will be a fabulous addition to this attractive resort.
For those that are driving on their vacation, most of the roads are decent, albeit poorly signed. In Canada we have frost heaves on asphalt roads, in Cuba, it is the heat that causes the asphalt to heave or soften. The National Auto Pista (Freeway) can be surprising when you find that you share the road with bicyclists, horse drawn carts, tractors and centre median vendors.
