“Somewhat rundown, but beautiful setting”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

This all inclusive is direly in need of refurbishing (there's practically no water pressure in the showers, fixtures are old and cracked), but it's set on a stunningly beautiful beach. The rooms are clean, but a bit shabby. There is a buffet restaurant and a Cuban (by reservation) restaurant. Make reservations for the Cuban (with the concierge in the lobby, after 8:30 am on the day you wish to dine.) Try the lobster tail upgrade for $15 CUC. It is huge and delicious. The ice cream here is better than at the buffet, but stop over at the buffet after eating here for a wonderful array of desserts. We ate in the Cuban restaurant exclusively (except for the lobster, served buffet style) for dinner. Breakfast is buffet restaurant only, and the coffee is terrible. Go to the pool bar, which is right next to the buffet, and order a double coffee, which you can then take in to the buffet. Breakfast is very good.

“Good hotel with lovely beach, but overall not high standard”

The beach here is gorgeous and with plenty of sunbeds/brollies. The staff were lovely and we enjoyed returning to our room daily to see what work of art had been sculpted from the towels. The food in the buffet restaurant was very variable and more often not very good. There are two a la carte restaurants. The Cuban one is not really a la carte as it's another buffet with less choice but better quality food and the ambiance was nice. The other a la carte (one floor above the buffet) was the best and we could buy a bottle of decent wine which made a nice change from the terrible all-inc vino. Our room was comfortable and we had a lovely balcony overlooking the beach, although for some reason only had one patio chair.

“Brisas Hotel: a Nice All-Inclusive Resort . . . IF . . . You Can Tolerate the Food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

The Brisas Hotel near Trinidad sur Mer is an all-inclusive resort with several assets. The rooms are spacious and well appointed. The grounds are immaculate and attractive. The beach is a few meters from the hotel, and the hotel provides beach towels, lounge chairs, and umbrellas. During my stay in January the south-facing beach had virtually no surf.
These amenities and the daily rate of $125 American at an all-inclusive resort is a steal with one exception . . . THE FOOD. Guests normally eat at a large buffet, although it is possible to eat in one of the two restaurants once a week with prior reservations. I found the buffet food to be some of the worst I've ever had, and the "Restaurants" basically recycle the buffet, which is just down the stairs. During the 4 days at the Brisas I had some pork and turkey that was OK, but everything else was at best, mediocre.
The village of Trinidad sur Mer, one of the most picturesque villages in the world, is about 16-18 km from the Brisas Resort. I suggest that if you want to experience Trinidad, stay at the Iberostar Grand Hotel in the center of the village. The 5-star Iberostar is more expensive, but worth it.

Room Tip: Tip the bartenders and the room maids for good service. Each morning we left 2 CUCS and either tooth...

“Not bad for Cuba- Please remember to tip for good service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

Stayed for 3 nights beginning of January. Room was satisfactory except one of the beds had some kind of stain on it that looked fresh but even though it wasn't being used they did change the sheets the next day. Had a wonderful beach view and a nice patio to sit outside and relax. Beaches are very nice except they aren't private and was very disheartening to have not only some locals but also a staff member ask me if I was leaving soon and could I give them an article of clothing. Other than in the a l carte dining room, service was typicallly poor. I am a generous tipper (especially in Cuba), but often I couldn't bring myself to leave a tip for such poor service. I waited over 20 minutes for service in the snack bar even after waving to the waiter to let him know I wanted to order something. He totally ignored me and finally I went up and got a hamburger myself. The buffet food was typical for Cuba. Not of high quality nor alot of variety but was edible. Unfortunately for the Cubans, Mexico has much better resorts, gives better service and the food and drinks are of higher quality. Lessons are needed for the servers on being friendlier and providing better service. They would really notice a difference in their tips. Having said that if you do get good service please tip. Even a CUC or two per meal makes such a huge difference in their lives. These people make $10.00 a month and need tips to buy basic goods in this country. (and a pair of jeans there costs the same as in Canada) If the resort is reading this- please train the staff on providing better service. It's a win win situation having happy customers who would show their appreciation by tipping and making the staff happier to work there.

“If you have to stay here, don't go to Trinidad!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

We had to stay here because our 1st choice was full, but I would have skipped Trinidad if I had known how bad the rooms would be. We asked for a non-smoking, one large bed and got a smoking, 2 bed room that smelled awful. The next day we were changed to a single bed room but the room smell was even worse. The rooms had a patio, but if opened the door the mosquitos came in. The public areas like the lobby, restaurants, bar and pool areas are all very well maintained and look very nice, but the rooms in the 8000 number range were not. We only had a trickle of cool water the first room, and a good amount of water the second room but it was almost COLD. If you arrive after mid-day, you cannot get dinner reservations for any specialty restaurants and have to eat at the buffet which was only OK. Breakfast buffet was limited with eggs and several sliced sausages and bread, but no breakfast pastries. We ate at the barbeque restaurant one night, but they ran out of pork and chicken so you had to eat fish or the shredded beef, which was good. They only had 3 side dishes-yucca, rice or mixed vegetable. The chicken breast with cheese at the International Restaurant was thin, tough and had no flavor at all. It was topped with almost no cheese at all.
There are many other buildings that have rooms, so perhaps some of them have better rooms, but I would not take the chance and stay here..

Room Tip: Ask to see the room before you accept it, or ask if they have updated rooms.
