We booked this as a special treat on our rounds of motel and roadside hotels... and it certainly was a MASSIVE treat. Tucked away at the top of a hill (incredibly steep drive!!) it's a masterpiece of design meets comfort - with the most breathtaking views on the island. From the first moment we got there we were treated like friends (the 'hotel' only has 3 guest suites). After a welcoming cold drink taken on the pool level and watching boats sail by on the bluest waters - with Auckland perched on the horizon - we were taken to our suite. We chose the Lookout Suite as it appealed to us in it's design on privacy (although all three suites are totally separate and secluded [we had a tour before anyone else arrived!!) Almost 300 degree views through a wall of glass was had from our superb sleigh bed. Our bath was against the glass wall (Phillipe Stark at his most ingenious!) where we were only overlooked by seagulls flying overhead. We had our own deck and were able to completely relax (followed by a dip in the wonderful cedarwood hot tub). All the wonderful extras in the room were just that - extras. It couldn't have made the stay any better. But what you MUST do if you stay at the Glasshouse, is have one of Bronwen's superb dinners. She came early in the afternoon and spent the rest of the day preparing what had to be the most glorious meal I think I have ever eaten, whilst unobtrusively being part of the evening. The best, best time at one of the most wonderful spots in North Island. Visit, you will NOT be disappointed!
