We stayed at the BOMC just after it re-opened back in 2003 but hadn't been back since. Our 2 night trip to the BOMC was a special treat for walking the Queen Charlotte track. We finished the track at Anakiwa and a few hours later, we were having a nice coffee in the guests cafe! Having had marvelous weather on the track, we ran into a brief southerly squall, which made the boat ride out more interesting. As we arrived Brooke, the assistant manager, was there to help us disembark and take us to the cafe for a coffee, whilst our bags were taken to our room.
The resort is in an incredible spot. The rooms, which are really apartments, are really well done and very well equipped. They all have fabulous views and can cope with hot or cold weather quite well. The bathrooms are large with big walk in showers and nice soaps and shampoos.
We took a spa to rest our weary legs and the following day we indulged in a lovely massage from Anji, the resident therapist. Highly recommended. We had a lovely dinner in the restaurant on our first night. The fire was on and it felt very cosy. The food is excellent and the setting couldn't be better.
We had breakfast in our room. We had picked up some basics in Picton, prior to taking the boat over, and breakfast in bed was a nice way to start the day. You could spend all day in bed just starting at the views.
Eventually we got up and had a simple but tasty lunch in the guest cafe. There is a cafe which is open to the public down on the jetty but the guests have their own spot, with papers and magazines and great furniture to lounge around on and watch the action. Free wi-fi is also available if you need it.
On our second night we didn't fancy a full meal so just had some burgers downstairs. They were delicious. Everything about this resort is top notch. Pip, Nick and Brooke run a very tight ship and someone is always around to help you out or make something happen. It's not cheap to stay here but you do get what you pay for: outstanding location, amazing service, excellent food and very swish but appropriate accommodation.
If we had more time here, we would probably do some kayaking, fishing or a day trip on a boat. You can walk a very steep path up to the QC track and I understand that access is going to be improved there so it may well be an option for QC walkers at some point. Personally, I liked coming here after doing the whole track because I don't think I'd want to leave if I came here for just one night!
If you come to the Sounds, you really must experience the BOMC. It's a truly special spot.

What a pleasure it was to welcome you both back to the resort for a well deserved rest after your time on the track! Thank goodness the weather improved after your rough trip out, love the photos - it looks like you got some great shots of your time here.
Let us know when you are next up in the Sounds, we'd love to see you again.
All the best for 2012, from Pip, Nick, Brooke and the team at BOMC
