Stayed in Room 2. Fantastic location and view--right on the corner, and across from the main pier. We stayed here in the off season, so there were no problems with noise, but I could see how on a busy high season weekend, it might get a bit noisy, as there is a popular restaurant below. While we there, cigarette smoke easily wafted up to our balcony from the outdoor dining area below. Otherwise, the balcony was fabulous.

The room was comfortable, spacious, tastefully furnished, bright and cheery (lots of light pouring in from the balcony and skylight), with a decent mini kitchen: fridge, sink, stove top, toaster, dishes, and more.

The price was reasonable, a great value. if I were going back to Akaroa, i wouldn't stay anywhere else. However, if I were staying here during high season, i wouldn't fail to bring ear plugs.

myself and my wife visited Akaroa and stayed at L'hotel for 2 nights. It has by far the best views of the harbor and the restaurant food is excellent value - dinner menu very reasonable for fine dining in a relaxed pub type atmosphere. THankyou to Johnno who looked after us so well, the manager really went out of his way to help us with anything we asked. Friendly young staff and just a nice place to 'chill' for a few days.

i went here for the restaurant, nit as a hotel.
rude, slovenly front of house staff who ignored my arrival while they had a chat wth mates. it actually got worse after this. the place was half empty - no wonder. but given the lack of patrons, one might have thought better service would have been given. there are other better restaurants in akaroa.

We couldn't believe our luck when we arrived in Akaroa after a long journey from Melbourne via Sydney without our luggage. It was like we had died and gone to heaven. L'Hotel is really fantastic with only four rooms on the upper floor with the restaurant on the ground floor. The room we had ( number 4 ) was a good size and very clean with a table and two chairs and kitchenette with microwave and everything you need to cook a meal. It had a nice bathroom and a very comfortable bed. We were situated on the side of the building but still had a view over the bay and harbour. It was lovely to sit on the balcony and watch things going on around the town and bay. The young couple who own the hotel are very pleasant and helpful. the food is excellent as well. Akaroa was our first place to stop in NZ and we are so lucky a friend recommended it to us after we had to cancel the hotel in Christchurch because of the Earthquake in February. It's a quiet peaceful place with a few nice shops and a great fish and chip shop. A fantastic experience we shall never forget.
