We were doing a quick 4 day trip to Perth/Fremantle and it didn't take much work to realise Fothergill's of Fremantle had to be THE place to stay: perfect positioning, great choice of rooms, beautiful artwork, many many great reviews and delightful breakfasts!
As we were coming in from Melbourne late into Perth we were concerned that it wouldn't be possible to spend the first night at the B&B, due to no one being awake, but luckily they have a key system at the front door which worked a charm.
The B&B is just 2 mins from the Fremantle Prison, a 5 minute walk down hill to town (prob 10 minutes to Little Creatures) and just around the corner to High St or Ord St where the CAT bus stop (free buses that take you around Fremantle) is.
Freo has most of its parking in parking bays dotted around the place. There is parking on the boundaries on the main part of the city (we parked in Cantonment St to eat at Maya in Market St) but when you are so close we barely used the car, the walk was great and used the bus alot!
We stayed in the English room which was on the first floor of No 18. Beautiful large room, four poster bed, great queen sized bed, beautiful sheets, pillows, divine artwork, lovely balcony out the front and look at those gorgeous curtains (real ones, that actually shut the light out).
David stocks the house with so many things. So many books I was in heaven! Coffee & tea supplies in the bedroom with a fridge that was stocked on the first two days with water (not sure what happened the next two?) and some nibblies. Very nice touch, thank you. Clocks everywhere so you would never be lost for time! Loved the cow sculptures!
Lovely spacious bathroom next door (not ensuite, but as you have the run of that floor its not a problem) with superb shower & bath (which we used on a cooler night) plus loads of supplies of shampoo, conditioner, moisturiser, cotton balls, tampons, etc.
Weather had been very hot and that was one issue for me who feels the heat. Would have been great if the blinds on the balcony were shut down (would do that next time) as the sun shines in all afternoon but as there was an airconditioner in the room it kept it lovely and cool. Would have loved a fan in the room, only because the aircon was SO good it got freezing over the bed and we had to turn it off. Not a problem, just a preference.
Breakfast was wonderful. We met Kwi that weekend and she was warm and lovely and very caring. I'm not sure what happened on the Monday, we had another two ladies neither of whom were warm or even said hi hello how are you. We felt like we were an inconvenience. Very cold and didn't even introduce themselves so I don't know who they were, the only disappointment of the stay, as we even met the owner David who was lovely.
As its a B&B, you would hope for that warm welcoming feeling next time, anyways it was a fabulous place and we would definitely stay again!
Room Tip: As the English Room is on Ord St, be aware this is a main road coming in/going out of Freo so expect...
