Stayed at this hotel for 2 weeks over January and February whilst travelling for work.

The first room I had was down a long hallway along the side of the building, so If I wanted to visit any of the restaurants or bars in the city I would have to walk the 100 metres out the front door, then back down the street past my room. Doesn't sound like much but was very annoying after a while!

The second room I had, was a park view room. It was pretty much the same except it had a balcony overlooking the park opposite. It was nice, but there's no way I could justify the price if I was paying myself.

The breakfast and bar is very expensive ($30-$40 for breakfast, $13 for a pint of Heineken). The full breakfast was very ordinary..

We stayed one night during the Australian Olympic Sailing competition. We did not book ahead but thought for the price they quoted the home would be special. Our room was very expensive and pretty average. I would have expected at least bathrobes in the room. The hotel was very convenient for sightseeing and for watching some of the competition. The town of Fremantle was wonderful, interesting and hopping.

Stayed for a few nights with my wife and 12 month old baby. Good room and pool. Convenient with walking distance to most of the city's attractions. We were there over a Saturday night and there was obviously a function of some sort going on downstairs with loud music such that we were all kept awake late. After a phone call to reception there was some decrease in the volume but still load enough to be annoying, If you stay there ask for a room away from the common areas like the dining and function areas.

This review comes after several days of concern following my reading of a negative review of the restaurant just last week. We had a booking for our family of 21 coming up and now, after eating there, we can only conclude that the previous reviewer was in another place entirely!

All the issues raised by Fred R were totally the opposite of our experience...

We walked in and were greeted by lovely, well-dressed staff, who were attentive and friendly throughout the afternoon. All of our service needs were met with professionalism and courtesy.
The buffet was fresh, tasty and full of great choices. There was a range of options across all courses, hot and cold foods, from a lovely soup, to a whole long buffet for sweets, cakes and desserts, all yummy and fresh.
There was also a chef available for freshly prepared pizzas, coming hot out of the oven...

Ranging in age from 10 to 83 years old - we all thoroughly enjoyed our meals and felt that the selections were great... We enjoyed the ambience of the place, it was clean, the tables were attractively set and there was plenty of room for our family member in a wheelchair, whose needs were particularly well met by the hotel.

I really don't know what may have been the problem - or not - on the day the previous reviewer visited the Esplanade, however, I can say that we are seasoned travellers all and regularly eat out and about... and we had a great family day, and would happily return to this buffet for another event!
