We had 4 nights in the mountains and chose the Hotel Oberland at Lauterbrunnen after reading TA reviews. It was the perfect location to explore.
We stayed in early Oct and the weather was perfect for exploring and hiking.
The Hotel Oberland is a pleasant quiet guest house style hotel and Mark, Ursula and the staff were very welcoming. Mark is an Aussie and we loved that English was spoken so there were no communication problems for us. The breakfast is simple and fresh and the restaurant at the hotel served good local food. We also ate at another hotel nearby which was comparable.
We spent our days exploring the mountains and only returned to our room to sleep so the hotel was a perfect base for us to do that.
There are stairs and no lift which wasn't a problem for us and the wifi signal was very weak in our room but better downstairs. Another tip was that we purchased the Berner Oberland Pass (and they had a 2 for one deal in October) and that gave us travel on all the rail and cable cars for our 4 days (with the exception of the top of Jungfau and Skilthorn).
