I have spent the last 2 summers here with my family. We booked it after a recommendation from a friend who has been here half a dozen times and loved it - definitely good enough for us!
This is a sprawling property with beautiful private villas. Its like a whole little village iitself. The villas have their own surrounding garden and are private and peaceful. Many are privately owned, and are rented by the owner or rented by the hotel. Everyone minds their own business and the whole atmosphere is civilised and homely. There's a lovely pool, shops and mini mart on site and then the bigger shops and restaurants are just outside the gates.
The town of Cabanas is small but full of all you need.
The beach takes getting used to, but has its own novelty factor too! The hotel provides a little train service that runs continuously up and down to the promenade. A bumpy ride but fun for the kids. You then board a little speedboat over the 200m or so to the beach. The beach is lovely, but has little or no shelter out of the sun. The loungers are expensive too. Given the trek to get to the beach, its probably worth bearing in mind that you can't just nip back too easily! Something to bear in mind if you have young children too.
This area is not for lively young-makers holiday. The bars are quaint and traditional rather than touristy. The restaurants serve excellent food though and lovers of seafood - you're in for a treat here!
The hotel organised bike rentals for us and i would highly recommend it as the neighbouring towns are beautiful. Lovely lush scenery for such a hot country!
The local town of Tavira is absolutely lovely. We went many times and i would recommend you get the speedboat over at least once as its a stunning trip. The town has dozens of shops, restaurants and sights to see. The outdoor music in the square is great. The little ones will enjoy the novelty train that runs around the whole town - approx 30 mins. Its a great way to see the town!
