This is one of the most attractive and charming hotels in Spindleruv Mlyn. It is a bit out of town, however, so if you don't have your own car be prepared to walk about 1 km up a very steep hill to get there. It is also not very close to the ski runs. There is a freetown bus service, but it is infrequent, and you have to take one bus into town then change to another bus to the hills. We enjoyed the location, however, as we are good walkers.
We stayed in a Studio room which was lovely, freshly decorated and spotlessly clean. It was built into the side of the hill, however, so the only window looked out on to the public walk area, so not very private. There was no place to sit and gaze and the stunning scenery. Also, the studio rooms are built on a semicircle which amplfies noise greatly. There was a large party of Russians who occupied several rooms and decided to socialise and smoke right outside our room until all hours. I required ear plugs each night to get to sleep.
The staff were variable. The woman who was at reception most times was very friendly and helpful, although spoke no English at all so we had to rely on sign language and high school German. The two men who occasionally worked on the desk could not muster up any sort of smile at all.
The restaurant was good, and the value for money of the half pension was fantastic. For 8 euro per day we had a lavish buffet breakfast then one other two-course meal which we could have as either lunch or dinner. It was great being able to eat as early as we wanted in the evening. The food was excellent, and the price for drinks was very reasonable. Strangely, they didn't guarantee a table for half pension guests, so we had to reserve a table each day. One day we forgot and had to sit at separate tables!
Spindleruv Mlyn is a great spot for skiing, and we enjoyed the exoticism of being the only English speakers in town. The tourists are mainly Russians and Poles. The non ski facilities are also excellent: there is a world class 4 km sled run into town which we took most days, plus a really great aquatic park. No cross country skiing to speak of, which was a disappointment.
Overall I would be very happy to spend another holiday in this hotel.
