Also we needed to stay over-night, but had a bit more time. Hotel itself is new or well maintained.
Very well located righ on the boarder of the historical center and seems also close to the train station, but no noise at all. For whatever reason we were offered a complimentary dinner and it was suprizingly good. Also since we had to leave at 4 a.m. we were offered sandwiches.
Hotel staff was very kind and attentive.
Room was clean and smelled good.
Next time I am definetely staying there for a longer period ! And suggest you to do so as well.

We spent our Christmas eve in Hotel Avalon in Riga. The Hotel is directly next to the beautiful old town, everything is in walking distance. The rooms were clean but not too big and the staff was very nice and helpful. The restaurant (dinner as well as the breakfast) is excellent as is the bar. We really couldn't find something bad, only the restaurant could have been separated from the lobby better. Unfortunately the rooms are not looking to the city, nevertheless it is almost always a good idea to ask for a top floor room.
For a sightseeing stay in Riga the Avalon Hotel is a perfect choice. Do not miss to visit the skybar on top of the Radisson Blu hotel when staying in Riga.

This hotel is right on the edge of Old Town. In front of the hotel is a main road, a tram line and the main railway. Old Town is behind the hotel. Sound proofing against outside noise is, however, just about perfect. Sound proofing against internal noise is not. All the rooms are based around a central atrium. When they had a party in the lobby area, it was like having a band outside the room door and we were on the 6th floor.
The room was modern and well equipped. Staff could not do enough for us. Breakfast could have been better - we stayed at the Radisson Hotel Latvija the day before we came here and their breakfast was much better.

Rooms were okay, but nothing more than okay. Bathroom looked nice at first view, but on further inspection you could see the cracks, and the marks. Had a nice deep bathtub, but the shower had no water pressure what so ever, which made it very difficult to rinse out shampoo from hair when showering.
Room had iron, minibar (with only drinks, no snacks) and phone. WIFI was free and worked as it should all through the stay¨.

The biggest let-down was the food. Breakfast was okay, had some good choice, pancakes and fruit was a plus.
Lunch and dinner on the other hand was terrible, old potatoes, poor selection of food, dry meat.. will definately suggest to have these meals outside the hotel.

and on the last note; it would be nice if the staff actually smiled, just once in a while...
