“excellent location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 November 2011

The hotel is in an excellent location, just behind the House of the Blackheads. It is very easy to get to from the airport - no.22 bus from the airport and get off at the 11 novembra krastmala stop - it's across the road via the underpass and just round the corner-2-3minswalk.( 0.70c instead of about 15 lats by taxi !)
Staff are very helpful and the hotel is warm and clean.
The coffee house and the bar attatched to the hotel are good.
Breakfast was fine with plenty choice.
The hotel isn't 4 star however , more like a 3 star using usual european standards. The bedrooms let them down. The lights take for ever to warm up and we had two very narrow twin beds in our room.
It also could do with tea and coffe making equipment/facilities in the bedroom.
Would I use the hotel again - yes.

“Good location in the heart of Old Riga but rooms are not 4*”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 November 2011

There are many reasons why this Hotel is a good choice for a stay in Riga. Great location in the heart of the old town, minutes walk to just about everything, while at the same time an easy (10 min) walk to the Bus Station. Staff are very helpful and the breakfast buffet is top quality (huge variety). There's also an internet terminal at reception, free for all guests to use.

The Hotel building itself and all the common areas, inside and out, have an old world charm that makes for a very pleasant stay. It's a shame, then, that the room we had (a standard double) did not come close to matching this charm or the 4* rating. At the very best more like 2*. Spotlessly clean but without all the little extras you'd expect for a 4* rating. Perhaps, given the price we paid, it was unrealistic to expect better and it certainly didn't detract from the wonderful few days we spent in Riga.

“Excellent hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

We liked Garden Palace very much. Hotel is situated in a 18th century building and is located in the very heart of Riga old town. Service was good and friendly and the breakfast was one of the best I've ever had. Hotel and rooms are nicely decorated and overall ambiance is nice. Rooms have free WiFi, but unfortunately the connection wasn't very fast or reliable.

Rooms were tidy, although my room was rather small. One member of our group got a much bigger room for the same price. Rooms have separate air conditioners so you can adjust the room temperature to what you like the best.

Rooms on the street side are a bit noisy, you can hear music from the hotel club and cars driving on the street. However the rooms on the inner yard side are very quiet.

Hotel has an own minibus taxi service. Fare is a bit higher than in green or red taxis, I suggest you use them instead.

We also liked Riga very much and the Hotel Garden Palace is an excellent choice for staying in Riga.

Room Tip: Rooms on the street side are a bit noisy, you can hear music from the hotel club and from the cars o...

“best hotel in Riga”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2011

I fell in love with hotel from the moment I made my booking. I emailed the hotel a lot with so many questions, and everything was resolved immediately. The hotel location is perfect - in the very heart of Old Riga. The building of the hotel itself is very beautiful. Teh reception is kind and helpful. Check in was quick and professional, my credit card was not even asked to be charged for any stupid deposits like in other hotels, though I had all extras available. Unfortunately the roomtype I booked was not available, but I was upgraded to a more spacious family room. The bathroom was huge, with a giant mirror.

Breakfast was the best thing that happened to me. Really. It will take the rest of the day to mention everything they served: 6 or 7 types of cheese, 5 types of fish, pickles vegetables, several types of meat, mozarella with tomatos salad, fresh vegetables, a huge variety of hot stuffj (I haven't tried it, so don't remember everything) like sausages and egg dishes. Then at the next counter, there are fruits. A big bowl with watermelon, and all existing fruits like plums, pineapple, melon, grapes, apples, peaches, etc. At the third counter there are sweets and nuts. Whole roasted almond, whole hazelnut, pruns and raisins, and much more, a good selection of pastry (very very fresh and delicious), and tea and coffee. There is about 6 or 8 types of tea. I thought I wouldn't be albel to walk after that breakfast. I started to think about the next breakfast in the evening of the first day.
The reception was very kind at check out. They offered their airport trasnsfer a the price of a taxi one, just because I said that I was in a hurry and had no time to wait for the taxi. They split the room charge for the last night to two credit cards (most hotels refuse to do that).
It was my fourth time in Riga, and I now think it was my first and time, because the previous trips were not as good as this one, and now I have a whole new impression of the town. I will definately come back and stay at Garden Palace.

“A very good and quiet hotel with still potential for highest quality”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 September 2011

An excellent location, easy to access from airport with the AirBaltic shuttle or the hotel's car transfert.
A quiet place, a quiet lobby and quiet rooms.
The breakfast-room is to small as some clients had to wait before finding a table free.
The quality of the coffee and of the orange juice can be significantly improved.
Rather strange is that in the evening, the windows of the bar are lighted with red colors and other colors. Even if it remains a very correct and quiet place.
In conclusion: two improvements: the breakfast and the design of the bar.

Room Tip: Having tested a single room and a double room, the bed of the single room was very large and the sho...
