Second time in Riga but certainly won't be going back to The Kolonna. The rooms were tiny, beds uncomfotable and the music blaring out from the main square below sleep depriving. The biggest complaint, however , is regarding the way we were spoken too when checking in. The guy was nonchalant and when we waited in line to ask questions later that day we were blatantly ignored. The experience hasn't put me off Riga however thankfully.

Right in the centre of town. Most museums, churches, monuments within walking distance. Room simple, but clean and didn't lack anything important. For dinner try the buffet at Alus Seta restaurant just across the road.

This hotel was a good value for what we payed - it was clean and the location was great. The rooms are small and set up in a hostel style with two twin bed in opposite sides of the room. The beds were awful though - extremely hard and my friend and I woke up everyday with a sore back and a kinked neck. Also, the water pressure was really weak so showering took a while. This hotel must have been something else previously because the hallways look like an office building and seemed a bit oppresive at times. There is free wifi which worked great and computer access in the lobby for 2 lats/half hr which around $5cdn. Also, breakfast was included with the stay and was really nice with a selection of delicious rye breads, cereals, deli meats and coffee/tea. We stayed in Riga for 5 days - though it was a beautiful city - we found that to be a bit long. I would recommend this hotel to people who are primarily interested in finding a clean and affordable place to stay rather than expecting a luxury hotel.

My wife and I stayed here for 4 nights at the end of September and found the hotel to be a gem. All parts of the it were clean, the staff welcoming and helpful and the breakfast sufficient for all except those Brits wanting the traditional cooked English offering. With ready access to all of the Old Town sights, the hotel was nevertheless a haven of peace and quiet. An excellent baker shop opposite provided a welcoming means of replenishment during the afernoon - the only downside being the need for strong resolve to resist selecting more than one from the delicious range of cakes - while there was a large variety of bars and restaurants within easy strolling distance for the evening entertainment. The Dom Cathedral, nighly light show at the House of Blackheads and St Peter's are all within a 2 minute walk.
