This hotel is very much a two star hotel. It is actually a converted apartment building, about a 15 minute walk from the Old Town, though there are scores of trams/buses/trolleybuses nearby if you are too tired or are feeling lazy. There are also two supermarkets nearby if you want to stock up on snacks and a couple of Italian restaurants also on Gertrudes Iela.
I was greeted, if that is that is the correct term, in a very perfunctory way, by the (pretty) Ice Maiden at a reception. This seems to be the way in Latvia (or maybe it is me!). However the room itself was quite large and well furnished (given a double though requested a single). It was overlooking the street, though the street noise was not too bad. I wasn't staying at the weekend though. The room and the shower were clean. The TV was mostly Latvian/Russian Channels with only BBC Worldwide and ESPN in English.
Breakfast was OK. Coffee/Tea/Orange juice, Cereal (the same every day), cold meat/cheese, bread, yoghurt, tomato, and a hot dish which was usually scrambled/fried egg or sausages.
Would I stay there again. Well, yes I would, unless I could find somewhere a little closer to town for a similar price.
