“Very satisfied”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

I stayed here for 3 nights at the end of January. I also stayed in Swissotel so I am able to compare this hotel. I would suggest that both hotels are very good - in different ways.

I noticed 2 recent reviews. One complained about the fact that the Spa was shut and this wasn't advertised on the website. Perhaps that reviewer booked on another website - the Hotel Telegraaf website definitely informed me that the Spa would be shut for one week. This was impossible to miss!!!
The second recent review 'very disappointed' is also a bit questionable. Location 5 stars, Rooms 3 stars, Value 3 stars yet overall rating 1 star?! Hmmmm.... My girlfriend is a cleanliness freak and she never found anything wrong with the room or hotel as a whole. This sounds like bad luck for the reviewer and I'm sure this is the exception.

Service:

This is where the hotel excelled. I told reception I was leaving for Helsinki really early - and I was offered a 'breakfast box' to take away. I didn't have to ask - nice touch. I was also recommended a really nice restaurant for my birthday (no not the hotel's own!). Staff would smile, say hello and were attentive.

Rooms:

The room did not have the 'wow' factor like that of Swissotel. However, the bed was very comfortable, and the room had character. This included a unique old fashioned phone which was a nice touch.

Spa:

This was lovely. The jacuzzi was bliss, the swimming pool a bit cold for my liking. There was also a steam room and sauna. The spa is small, but most of the time we had it to ourselves.

Breakfast:

This is served in the restaurant 'Tchaikovsky'. The setting was lovely and the food was good. There was a good selection.

Value:

I paid roughly £80 per night - an almost identical rate to Swissotel. The rates can vary hugely depending on which website you book with. I also stayed for 3 nights which brought the price down, whilst I only stayed at Swissotel for 1 night. Look very carefully for some good deals - don't rush into booking.

Overall:

This is a lovely hotel. I think if you book it you will enjoy it. It is a romantic hotel - though I also noticed that businesses tended to use it too. If you are thinking of, or have already booked this hotel, don't worry about what looks like one isolated bad review.

“Very disappointed”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

When staying for one night I encountered several problems
- front desk told me when checking in that the room whould be ready at 4pm (later I learned that regular check in time is 2pm)
- I was given a "smoking" room though I had asked for non smoking. When I complained I got a new one. Strangely, there was no ashtray or any other indication that it was a "smoking" room. But it smelled.
- There were lots of hair in the bathtub. After I complained, both a cleaning lady and the head of houskeeping appeared and behaved as if this was a true cathastrophy that had never occurred before.. She asked me if I had noticed any other problems. I asked her to look if everything was ok. Later I noticed several other dirty places, e.g. the carpet, the washbasin, the hairdryer (see photos). The hairdryer was so dirty I did not dare to use it.
I feel that's really bad: Being shown problems and being unable or unable to solve them.
- At 2 am I woke up due to noise in the next room. Guests were just talking, no party. Apparently walls are very thin.
-when I asked for a transfer to the airport, it turned out that the limo service they offer as having very competitive prices as compared to a taxi is actually more than double the price.
-you have to look when the taxi is arriving by yourself outside; they do not ask the taxi driver to come in or tell you when it has arrived.
-breakfast ist sub-standard

This hotel is by no means a 5 star; it could be an acceptable 4-star if cleanlyness is improved.

Room Tip: When booking, make sure room is non-smoking!

“lovely hotel in a lovely city”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

we loved hotel telegraph, and everything about it, the design and location are the best attributes of this hotel, but few issues, we were there for 2 nights and on the second night there was a private function in the only restaurant of the hotel (which is a great restaurant with an amazing service) and that is fine but in -20 degree outside it is not easy to go out to have dinner so that was not so great, on other hand the Spa was under renovation and we were not informed until we arrived, i think great hotels should flag such information flagged on there websites. this is what make a difference between good hotels and great hotels.

“5 stars in old town”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

I visited the Telegraaf once. The hotel is number 1 or 2 in Tallinn and my visit met all the expectations. Rooms are beautifully decorated and big. The Restaurant Chaikovsky has excellent food and the location in the center of Old Tallinn is as good as it can be.

“Wonderful stay at this hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

The hotel is centrally located and a stones throw from the square. My friend and I stayed for 2 nights in January 2012. The hotel staff were amazingly helpful and courteous and truly know the meaning of customer service. The room was an exec room, very clean and well proportioned with comfortable twin beds and a well stocked mini bar. We even got to choose our own pillows! The turn down service with chocolates and a fresh bottle of water each night was a nice touch. The breakfast was an excellent buffet with a great choice of different foods for all palates. We had dinner in the restaurant which was exceptional. Amazing service and a very talented chef. We will definitely return.
