Lovely modern hotel, friendly staff. We went middle of December 2011, no snow and not very cold, just rained all weekend but didnt spoil the visit. Hotel is about ten minute walk to the old town. Breakfast is fine, the usual bread, toast, yoghurt, fruit, ham, and cheese etc. This is served in the restaurant in the basement, a bit gloomy and rustic but ok - didnt match the rest of the contemporary style of the hotel though. We booked a ZEN room and was supposed to have slippers and bathrobes, out of the 4 rooms booked none of us had any of these and we had to go to reception and ask for them, they werent delivered to the room and we had to ask again in the morning. Our room had the most disgusting smell of drains which made you heave it was that bad, couldnt change room until the next day and as only there 2 nights wasnt worth the bother. Maid arrived with 2 'glade' air freshners which she put behind the toilet but it didnt really work! This was such a shame as the room was great, free computer/internet, flat screen TV, mood lighting, comfy beds. However there were no curtains just ikea type blinds and the street lights shone into the room and we could also see people across the road so they must have been able to look in and see us too! The bathroom did not have a seperate shower just one over the bath and no curtain, so as you can imagine the bathroom flooded everytime we showered, probably why it smelt so bad! There was some lovely mood lighing in the bathroom and the jacuzzi bath was fantastic and really powerful. Very cheap taxi transfers to and from airport, in fact probably the cheapest we have ever had on a city break. Dont go for the Xmas market, you will be so disappointed. it was RUBBISH! in the main town square, small, all selling the same things and very very expensive. (Berlin and Cologne are amazing by the way). By the square is a place we nicknamed 'hole in the wall' were you could get an elk pie and gluwein for about 3 eruos and it was lovely, very olde worlde, dark, quaint and warm. We went in several times! The best restaurant by far was the PEPPERSHACK gorgeous food and the best steak I have ever had in my life, fair prices for the food but wine is astronomical! 28 euro for a basic bottle of white or red. Everywhere was the same. A glass of wine is only served as 12cl which is tiny and still costs 5 euro and they serve it in a massive glass with a dribble in the bottom! Definitely not a place to go now for stag and hen parties its just too expensive for a drinking weekend, but great for a couples weekend of culture! The ballet is a wonderful experience, we saw The Nutcracker at the Opera House, in Estonia it is a family event, not exclusive like at home and only about 12 euro a ticket, up in the gods mind, but we could see perfectly. Book on line before you go as tickets sell out really quick. Overal opinion of Tallin, worth going, enjoyed what I saw but not fussed about going again. Hotel needs to sort out its drain smell - out of the 4 rooms we had ours was the only one with the problem, think it was 213 or something similar?? think it is a frequent complaint as staff were not a bit surprised by my complaining.
