“Great budget hotel with outstanding location, but no Internet access, breakfast too generic”
Hotel Ambassador is a great budget hotel on Gedimino prospektas, Vilnius's most important (pedestrian) street. Surprisingly the street is fairly quiet at night. The old town is very close nearby, just walk right once you exit from the hotel. I paid less than $50 for my room including breakfast.
The hotel is in a nice old continental European building. Nice high ceilings, big rooms, beautiful big old windows that open to the street, etc. Could be in Vienna too. But, of course, Vilnius is a lot poorer than its Baltic pals Riga or Tallinn. This means no electronic key (not that I care). This also means no Internet access in the hotel (about this I do care).
Apart from lack of Internet access my only other concern is that breakfast is way too generic. Breakfast (no buffet, everybody gets the same breakfast) is served in the beautiful streetside café downstairs (with full-height sliding glass panes that open to the street) BUT they try hard not to be Lithuanian. And I find that a pity. This breakfast could have been served in any good European hotel. Nothing Lithuanian about it.
In summary: a great budget hotel that is old-fashioned in a nice way. If it was in Vienna and a bit more modern they'd charge you at least four times as much. The only two downsides I could identify: no Internet access, very generic breakfast.
