“I love this place!”

I stayed at the Barbacan the very first time I visited Vilnius. I've been there 9 or 10 times since then. I try to stay at the Barbacan whenever I can. There apartments provide a very special experience - - very private, lots of room, more of a home than a hotel feel. Unfortunately the apartments are getting very popular and are sometimes sold out. The location is great. It's just a couple of blocks off of the hub of Old Town, which means that it is both convenient and quite. I have found the staff to be extremely helpful. They are not operating according to a script and are allowed to freelance to a certain extent so they can solve many problems. The hotel is modern, but there is nothing overly fancy about it, which I like. It is run very professionally with a nice personal touch. It's a definite "must stay" for anyone visiting Vilnius.

  • Liked — spacious apartments
  • Disliked — parking seemed a little expensive (but convenient and very secure)

“Loved everything except the bar closed by 11pm.”

Our first surprise - on arrival, we were told we'd been upgraded. Don't know why, hotel obviously not overbooked. Suite absolutely fabulous size, bigger than my flat! King-size bed in king-size room, second bedroom (we are a couple - did they know we fall out all the time?), adequate bathroom, big lounge with multi-channel tv, well-equipped kitchen (not kitchenette!). Cleanliness second to none. Breakfast usual mix of fresh, fried and pickled. Staff as helpful as they could be, spoke pretty good English (but hey, how good's your Lithuanian?). All in all, would be very happy to go back, even to a mere mortal-sized room. BUT don't expect to get served in the bar if business isn't booming.

  • Liked — Free upgrade to suite.
  • Disliked — No late bar.

“Good.. but”

All the previous reviews were right: Barbacan Hotel is a nice one, placed in the Old Town of Vilnius, just a few min. walking from everything in the city center.
The location itself avoid any kind of noise due to traffic (the hotel is facing a very small street), and, expecially in the morning, it is nice to go outside the main entrance and frelaxing at open fresh air.
Vilnius old town is just 15 min. from the airport, so you don't need a long travel to reach the hotel after landing.
Reception staff is ok, young girls, very good English, sometimes a little rude, but they can be helpfully if you need.
Hotel has a restaurant, a bar\pub and a bowling. I tried the restaurant, just for a salad: ok, but too expensive in my opinion.
Breakfast is served in the restaurant: you can order at the girls your plate (pankake, eggs, bacon, etc), and it will arrive from the kitchen perfectly made in a very short time. Wow!! You have also some Jam and fruits, but this is not the best part of the breakfast!

I was given a 4th floor room: a little aged, but big and clean (see photos). I asked the reception if there was WiFi connection, and they told me "everywhere in the hotel". Now, I did not find any available Wireless connection in the room; only at the reception I found a low signal, and the connection was one of the slowest I ever found (I was not able to connect to my only-text e-mail webpage).

The next morning I had a "bad" surprise: they did not make up my room, even if I left it free for 3\4 hours with the right bagde on the door. I cannot understand what happened, but I did not ask the reception 'cause I just use to stay a few hours in my room (so I did not care about that).

I cannot say this hotel was for me perfect (compared to the other I slept in in Vilnius); but it is nice, at a reasonable rate, clean, and with a wonderfull position. Bad things (very few) can be easly forgotten.

“Good hotel and location”

We stayed here with our family (two boys aged 8 and 10) for two nights. The hotel was clean and well located. The internet access was a bonus. We booked a two bedroom place and found the space to be enormous! We didnt use the fully equipped kitchen but you could almost host a dinner party in our room. We will definitely be coming back here when we are next in Vilnius

“Excellent Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 May 2006

Just come back from a long weekend in Vilnius and stayed at the Barbacan Palace Hotel. Booked a double room, but was put into an apartment instead. The apartment was excellent, 2 bedrooms (including one with King size bed), fully fitted kitchen/diner, lounge with balcony. It was clean and very spacious. The apartment was very quiet and never heard any other guest or outdoor noise. The hotel staff were friendly, helpful and spoke English. There was a variety for breakfast. In the basement of the hotel is a bowling alley, although we didn't use it. The hotel is close to the Old Town and handy for restaurants and sightseeing. I would recommend the hotel and would stay there again.
