We enjoyed our stay at the Artis Centrum in Vilnius during a weekend trip in September. The advantage of this hotel are its affordability, excellent location, good breakfast (included in the price) and the availability of the pool and small gym.
It’s in a grand old building in a very good part of town. Gives a good first impression. The hotel is well located in the middle of Vilnius. Gediminas Street, the Cathedral, shopping, museums and popular nightclubs are all within easy walking distance.
Nice large room. The bed was king size (two single beds pulled together). And there was a balcony with a great view. Perfect! However, the first room we were assigned was smaller and the twin or queen sized bed seemed too small. We asked to change rooms and they unhesitatingly gave us this room.
We really enjoyed the breakfast, partly because it was included. The buffet had everything (except an omelet bar). Eggs served scrambled or boiled. Salmon, herring, fresh breads, fresh fruit, yoghurt, decent coffee and tea and much more.
The pool and sauna facility is free to guests from 7-10 AM. The small gym had just enough weights and machines for a serious workout. If you’re a runner, you can run to and along the river and then have a sauna and swim when you get back.
To get to the hotel from the airport, just hop on bus 1. Leaves frequently and costs just 2 litas 50. It’s about a 15-20 minute ride. The bus takes you to the train/bus station in Vilnius. The hotel is about 1.5 km away so it is walkable from there. For a grand entrance into the city ask for directions to the Dawn Gates nearby and go through there. I think most people would want to take a bus from the station to get to the hotel though. Find “trolley bus” 1, 3 or 7. It’s about the sixth stop. A “trolley bus” is a bus connected to the electric wires overhead. You can also take the train from the airport but it seems to run just once an hour or so.
Every hotel has downsides, but it’s hard coming up with any for this place. I suppose the maids (who did a great job) could be a bit quieter out in the hallway.
Artis Centrum is not a five-star hotel, but it’s certainly four stars. Can’t give it less than a five because we enjoyed it so much and loved the location, affordability and breakfast so much.
