Kaunas is a terrific place to visit, particularly in January as you can extend the Christmas feel-good feeling. Lithuanian Christmas day (Russian orthodox) is 7 January, so everywhere still has decorations up until the end of the month. There’s also a virtual guarantee of there being snow on the ground to embellish the festive sensation. Leave plenty of space in your luggage as all the shops have January sales; you can pick up some excellent bargains from known high-street brands, as well as unusual or unique items of clothing or articles for your home.

The Amberton Cozy is a perfect base. It’s right in the middle of the old town, with loads of good cafes, bars & restaurants in the neighbourhood. You can get a meal for two for less than £10, with a large beer typically £1, glass of wine £1.50. The main shopping street and mall (Akropolis) are a very pleasant 15 minute walk away, although you’re sure to take longer stopping to take-in the abundance of interesting things to see on the way.

Rooms in the hotel are a decent size and well maintained. We actually used 2 in our 3 day stay. The first room we were given was on the top floor (4th), with slanting ceilings and a nice view. However, the initial impression of a room full of character gave way after bashing heads on the ceiling a few times and being woken up in the night by the smell of somebody smoking. We discovered later that there are smoking rooms on that floor. If you smoke and/or are under 5ft 6in tall, the 4th floor is probably OK. When we asked about the smoking at reception, they apologised & moved us to a 2nd floor room (that turned out to be larger and had a high ceiling!). There’s no lift; but the stairs are not steep and are very wide. Only likely to be a problem for people with walking difficulties. We cant comment on the breakfast as we chose to eat out.

Overall, a strong recommendation for a weekend break. Really good value, helpful staff and an unbeatable location.

We stayed there on 2 separate occasions and it was lovely both times. Rooms are spacious and well maintained- and definitely good value for money!
The breakfast was also reasonable. I will definitely go back and would be happy to recommend! It may be worth asking for a room downstairs if you're elderly or of reduced mobility, as there's no lift.

I really enjoyed the hotel and the staff. The room was big, nice and well equipped. I knew from a previous that the rooms on 4th floor are nice, so I had one there, and did not mind that there's not elevator. Some minor flaws (which did not disturb that much, but can be improved): the reception did not have some cream for shoes, they forgot to change a light bulb after a request (but 3 of four lamps were working, so no problem), in the bathroom there were 4 spiders (looks like the cleaning did not reach high on the walls).
Overall, very good choice, I will definitely book again here.
A special praise to the really gentle staff, both at the reception and in the breakfast bar.

I enjoyed my stay at Amberton Cozy in Kaunas. Is very central, in the middle of old city, so the district is very safe, something you must consider in this city. I also liked the quality of the hotel, specially considering that it didn't cost so much. Free Wifi included (it should be like this everywhere!) The only negative point is the breakfast but this is a general problem in the whole region. It seems like in all the Baltic States you can only have a salty breakfast with not much choice for sweet things and drinks. We western europeans are used to have croissants and things like this which in the Baltics are difficult to find.
