I stayed in Hermis for 2 nights in January 2011. Room No 311.

Small hotel, gym, little spa and restaurant.
Really big room with kingsize bed, desk, some shelves, corner with 2 armchair, sofa (with extra bed) and coffee table. 2 big windows. TV-set, minibar. Normal bathroom, with bath.

2 real minuses in room - a) I don't see climate control panel (in summertime room may not so comfortable), b) it's smokers room and some specific smell in room is felt.

Normal gym, small swimming pool, baths and sauna.
Good italian restaurant. Very good balance between quality and prices.
Private free parking, free Wi-Fi connection in room.

Not the best location. Far from centre, but near to big industrial quarter.

My agent booked this for me. I arrived into Kaunas about 9pm on the Ryanair and it is about 10 minutes from the airport, on the way into the city. The guy on the front desk was surly and disinterested. I got to my room which was in a dark hallway and there was no automatic light and no lightswitch, so I was fumbling around. The room was quite big but very worn. The bed was uncomfortable. The bathroom was clean. I ate in the restaurant as it was late. Not nice at all, poor food and poor service. A very poor selection of TV channels - no Champions League coverage on quarter final night. Also there was music blaring from the gym downstairs and I had to ring down to get them to turn it off, which they did. The internet connection did not work. Looking out of the window in the morning was like looking at a demolition site, just a mass of rubble, and a semi-swamp with some tin shacks on it. The only benefit was it was around the corner from my customer. I would not stay here again. Lithuania is on the up, and there are better hotels than this. I don't blame my agent, as she comes from Vilnius and just booked it for me on the internet.

This hotel is almost midway between the airport and town centre so if you arrive by plane it means a cheaper taxi journey. You have to take a taxi really as local transport to the airport is terrible. Should be 45Litas (approx $25.)
I booked a single room with hotels.com but when i arrived i found i'd been given a 2-storey suite for the same price. It was very nice and spacious, with seating area downstairs with TV and bar, and double bed upstairs, all open plan except a spotless ensuite bathroom.
Breakfast was nice the next day with hot food and fruit, meats, cereals etc.
I didn't get time to use the spa and pool, gym etc.

The Hotel Hermis is a small hotel (13 rooms) with busy public restaurant and leisure facilities on the same site. The building itself and the rooms have obviously been built (or at least refurbished) very recently, and the standard is much higher than you would typically find in other independent hotels in the region.

The rooms are actually suites or large split level rooms (depending on which side of the building you are staying on), providing an accomodation space far bigger than a standard double room, with additional facilities such as coffee tables, armchairs etc. Facilities are good and bathrobes, slippers etc are provided. There is free internet access on a PC in the corridor.

The (Italian) restaurant on-site is good, and prices very reasonable (no higher than the general standard in Lithuania), this is also where breakfast is served. The leisure facility looked good (and again, very modern) but was busy.

The location of the hotel was quite unexpected, it is on the main road in from the airport to the city centre, but not close enough to either to be classed as a genuine central or airport hotel and presumably is aimed at attracting business travellers for the nearby offices and industrial areas.

One gripe was that on check out (the first time, of two stays) the hotel tried to charge the standard tariff and not the pre-booked rate which was guaranteed by the booking website, this was resolved without much difficulty but it took a while to sort out.
