“Cosy, unusual and good value.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2012

Ok, the room was small but hey, it's a room in a boat... how many people can say that they've slept in a boat floating on the Danube?
Perhaps the girl at the reception could have been friendlier, the staff taking care of the breakfast could have been more careful to replace the food as it gets eaten (we arrived at 9 and there was almost nothing left)... but we enjoyed our stay in Boatel Marina and in Bratislava overall.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the second floor and looking at the Danube, but I guess those rooms will be more e...

We booked three nights and checked out after the second night. We moved to a nicer hotel in the centre and, of course, ended up paying more than we would have if we'd have booked online, but it was worth it to get out of the botel. The staff were courteous and polite, although my partner and I both resented the fact that they assumed we would want to go to strip clubs. The mini bar contained no alcohol and we were initially refused to be served two beers at 11.20pm as the man in charged seemed to think that all British men were going to be trouble. On our first night, my partner pulled back his mattress to reveal lots of "used" tissues. There was also a blood stain on the curtain and a hole in the door which had been covered up, presumably where someone had punched the door. We tried to put on a brave face and put up with the smell of curry, but it all got too much. The botel really is disgusting. It took 30 minutes to check out as the man kept persuading us to take up his offer of a nicer room and we were still charged 120 Euros for three nights. If you're in a stag party, this might be right for you, otherwise do not go there. Bratislava is a lovely city and there are much better deals to be found.

“Cheap and did the job”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 October 2011

We booked this hotel solely on its cheap price and didn't even realise it was a room on a boat. We stayed in a twin room and it was quite basic and small. The room had a musty old smell to it. Air conditioning didn't turn on command, but it turned on by itself just after midnight and I woke to loud air con noise and had to turn it off. No fan was provided in the room. Breakfast food was average, with limited amount of food and choice. It's served on the sun drenched deck so was a lovely setting, making up for the average food. It's not in the main part of the old town, but it's close enough to walk in by foot (10 minutes). It's about a 15 minute walk from the ferry terminal. It was an odd experience, but I didn't dislike it. I

Your either going to love this property/vehicle or hate it.

It is by chance i loved it.

I booked 4 nights in the single room/berth for the grand total of €92 which was a fantastic deal and once again highlights...if you want better pay more!

10 mins walk from the Novy Most tramstop i found it quite easily. When i stepped into the reception I had 2 thoughts, one was 'mmmm curry' the second was 'why is she giving me the evils?'

Now I LOVE curry like a mother loves a child so its no problem for me. If you dont like the smell of curry then you wont like this place, its not over powering but like when you would walk into a restaurant but of course there is one upstairs.

Evils. Yes, the girl behind the desk was staring at me like i had just raped and plundered her village and my cheery attempt to greet her bore no fruit. Over the course of my stay her attitude got much better! There was a young lad in reception who loved trying out his english with me and was most plesant!

When I left the girl waved goodbye to me and wished me a good journey. I believe i have a reason for her change of attitude. I never during my whole time there spoke to her like a bimbo who is 'obviously' 'up for it' nor did i drunkenly leer at her while making any poor attempt to 'chat her up'. This is pretty much the reason i guess/told by one of the waiters upstairs. To her i was another 'soon to be drunk loud englishman' but seeing as i was pleasent to her she was nice to me. = )

Ahoy!
The cabins were most interesting. I had seen a bed like this before in a University in Poland and i found it quite comfortable even though the large pillow took a while to get used to. The tv was pants, no channels worked except some russian news channel i believe.

The heater/air conditioner was not the best i have come across, at all.

Mini bar. €2 for a bottle of Budvar. WIN.

Bathroom.

Indeed it is a peculiar one-peice biege offering but one must not forget you cant have a normal type bathroom on a boat but on the plus side, Hot high pressure shower + seat in shower+closed door = Steam Room!! = )

Food

Never had a breakfast so i cant comment but the Indian food was ace, quite amusing fact, the majority of the ingredients they use come from England!

Try and get a river view room as it is so much nicer to look at. As for the boat rocking when there is passing traffic, I agree is does rock a little but i never felt it was so bad it was going to be 'ripped' from its moorings!

I also accidently broke the lamp above the bed by pulling the string and snapping it clean off so i replaced it with some string from the curtains. Sorry about that guys.

If or when i return to bratislava I will be returning to this bizarre offering that is the Botel Marina. = )

“Would not go back...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 August 2011 via mobile

Granted we got a good deal on Booking.com, but it still does not excuse this place and the fact that it advertises to be a three-star hotel. We had to shift rooms twice due to non-existant air conditioning. The air conditioning actually broke during our stay and there was a massive leak just as you walk in the main entrance. Not really such a good look for guests! As the reviews below state, rooms are pokey, dim and small. Bathrooms are tiny, to be expected on a boat. Breakfast is included, but probably the worst display of breakfast we have ever encountered. Very limited selection and hardly palatable, with what feels like leftovers. Indian curry smell is noticable in all three of the rooms we were in. Service was well below par and if you can do anything while you're in Bratislava - don't stay here.
