I chose this hotel based on reviews here, and wasn't disappointed. The location was great, a 15 minute walk from the train station, and right across from a pretty park. Check in was a breeze, and my superior room was spacious and comfortable. The hotel is unique in structure, with a lot of character.

The breakfast room is nice, especially if you look out at the park, with a great selection of dishes (buffet style).

You are only about a 15 walk from the center of the town square. However, this was my 8th trip to Hungary, and having been to most other cities (which I really enjoyed), I found Szombathely unattractive, with very little to do or see.

Unless you've been to all the other key cities, Gyor, Debrecen, Eger, Szeged, Esztergom, Pecs, Tokay,, and Sopron, do not bother to go.

Despite some maintenance problems quickly saved by the staff & age of equipment in comparison to standard of a today 4stars . But prices are in accordance even bellow....
This hotel is very convenient. Large Superior room. Swimpool, nice restaurant on garden, other balneo services, etc....

Booked a double room for a business trip. Drove down from Vienna to Szombathely, and the scenery was stunning! Hotel was very clean, staff were very friendly on reception and willing to give maps and directions. They also spoke very good English.

The room was spacious, if a little strange in layout- ie. the bed was at the top of 5 steep steps that were the width of the whole room! TV, furnishings and minibar etc were in great condition.

The swimming pool / jacuzzi was very busy, with lots of young children, so didnt get a chance to use it, but it looked ok.

The resteraunt was beautiful - clean and elegant - but the staff spoke no English, and the menus are all in Hungarian. This is not a critisism, however, as the meal was very traditional and tasty , yum!

Szombathley itself is so unspoilt - the little square in town is gorgeous, and the people are among the friendliest I have ever met. You get to see a little piece of the "real" Hungary here, and I would recommend it wholly..

The positives
a) Beautifully spacious hotel
b) Reasonable quality food and restaurant

The negatives
a) Do NOT accept a room overlooking reception. The reception lighting and exterior lights beam through the rooms all night AND typically the hotel room curtains do NOT cover the windows
b) NO English news channels
c) For a 4 star hotel you expect a spare pillow. Not 1 pillow per double bed
