This hotel sells itself as a "wellness" hotel or spa, which is hard to believe, given that there is smoking everywhere. You even have to walk through the smoking part of the restaurant to get to the non smoking part. And there were lots of smokers all the time, since this is Hungary. (A few hotels in Budapest are non smoking - but that is very progressive for Hungary.)
If you can see past the smoke, then you have a modest hotel with some extra facilities. Coming from the west, most of the exercise and spa facilities seemed somewhat crude - not luxurious. I was in the hotel for local business, and only looked at most of the facilities. (Though I did bowl with some work buddies.)
The rooms are clean but very basic. Many of the rooms on the upper floor have only skylights. I had to ask to be moved to a room with a normal window. No one who knows anything about design was involved with planning the rooms. The bathrooms were large, but had tiny shower stalls. Why not double the size of the shower? The switches next to the beds for the bedside lights were mounted so high you had to get out of bed to reach the switch.
The beds were acceptably comfortable. One problem was the noise of passing trucks. The hotel sits on a major route for heavy trucks heading to or from Romania. Even though I was in the inside courtyard, relatively shielded from the street, the noise of trucks was pretty loud during the night.
The buffet breakfast was marginal, at the low end of what one finds in most eastern european hotels. Coffee came from an automated machine. Things were laid out awkwardly - no thought was given to managing this place. The "orange juice" was almost undrinkable (must have had lots of sugar). Only the fresh local tomatoes and cucumbers were really good.
For lunch and dinner they had a real chef, and the meals were distinctly better, though most dishes were salty and/or heavy, as one often finds in Hungary.
I tried to rent one of the bikes they said are available. They had about six bikes. Every single one was too broken down to ride (flat tires and no pump available, broken seat, etc). A work friend found a bike for me and we ended up taking a great ride, since the countryside is pretty, and good for biking (slight hills).
If you are going to be stuck in this part of Hungary, this is not the worst place to be. But it is not something one would choose to go to if not for business. One plus: the wifi was free and worked fine.
Note: the same company is building a new spa across the street, which I heard should be done in a few months. I would not expect it to be much better, given the weak management.
