The hotel is made up of 2 buildings connected with atriums-perfectly done - Rooms are something to rememeberr-evcery of 29 is different decoreted. There are at least some you will fall in love... But the choice in the summer is limited due to great demand
Pool and jakuzzi are great, decorated in egiptian stile - a 5 star hotel wouldnt be ashamed'-
After 8pm it is open to nudists also - but I havent seen any...
Try the 1oo1 night room

“Nice hotel - shame about the town”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2009

This hotel does not have 4* quality rooms - they are imaginatively but shabbily decorated and furnished. The quality is very cheap. However, together with the size, cleanliness and lovely spa area we consider it good value for money. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. They all spoke excellent English. The minibar is very reasonably priced and the hotel has a central and easy to find location. Even though it is on a main road and next to a railway line, we were not disturbed at all. The restaurant was shut so cannot comment on that. The breakfast was average but there was a free coffee machine in a lounge area packed with leaflets and books on the area.

Siofok in September is not however recommended, everything was shut and the town has no charm. This could be a good place to stay in season.

“Pleasant Hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 August 2008

We have just got back from a weekend in Siofok and stayed here at the Best Western. It is self proclaimed as a boutique hotel... it isn't, the only reason why I think they would say that is because all the rooms are individually styled. The style though is more 'Changing Rooms' (cheap UK redecoration programme) rather than Boutique, everything was done cheaply and you can tell. However, that is the only niggle I have, the staff were lovely, kind and helpful, the room was clean and spacious (we had no 4 with a mezzanine bedroom... but steepish stairs)

The location... sandwiched between the 4 lane high street and a rail track... however, with the air con on and the windows closed this is not affect our sleep in any way (trains are pretty infrequent). As we were staying in high season being the few streets back we were from the lake and main bar area was a really good choice.

Siofok... we didn't like it much, there was one main street where everything is going on and unless you like really pumping dance music, loud youngsters having fun (and so it should be) and fast food there isn't a lot of other choice. We did manage to find a couple of restaurants to eat which had good food ... good job we had our guidebook as you wouldn't just drop on them.

Oh also we had to pay 900 forints eachper day to get to sit by the lake, it reduces to 500 after 4pm and is free in the evening for the bars and clubs.

We will go back to Balaton but try out a different town next time.

“Worst hotel ever (No aircom, lot of ants)”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 July 2008

We arrived at the hotel, and the aircom did not work. It was very hot in the room. The last night it was the same. The guy who worked in the reseption did not know what to do. He was afraid to call the manager, it was better that we melted away in our room...... He did not even know how to open the windows. Finally we got the windows open, and the next morning it was a lot of ants in the room. With noe aircon it was a smell of fungus in the room. Not nice! We asked for a discount when checking out, and we was offerd 12 Euros! 12 Euros for 2 nights without aircom......... I wont call that a discount! We payd 134 Euros pr night. It might be worth 50 Euros! Not more......
The pictures of the hotel on the internett looks very nice. The pictures lie. The hotel was worn out and shabby. I would never ever in my life visit this hotel again. I don't recomend this hotel to anyone!!!

“Lovely little hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 October 2007

Definitely not a typical 4* hotel but fantastic nonetheless.

We drove down from Budapest in a little over 2 hours and found the hotel easily enough. There was a warm welcome at reception, followed by a guided tour of the hotel and wellness centre. As the hotel is small, there was only one member of staff on at reception - not all of the staff spoke good English, they were all helpful and pleasant.

The room itself was lovely and airy with large windows along 2 of the walls. Unfortunately, the back of the hotel overlooks a railway line, though this wasn't very busy, and if it ran through the night we weren't aware of it. The windows are double-glazed with blinds outside so our sleep wasn't disturbed at all. The beds were comfortable and there was plenty of storage and wardrobe space. The bathroom was spotlessly clean and although there was no bath, the shower had more than enough features to compensate (I've never been sprayed in so many directions at once!)

There's plenty of open space around the hotel for lazing about, including a covered courtyard alongside the cafe/bar.

Breakfast offered a good range of juice, cereals, cold meats & cheeses, bread, fruit, though only opt for the coffee if you can take it Hungarian strength.

The wellness centre was immaculate, open for long hours and well equipped. We even had it to ourselves a couple of times.

We loved Siofok, though many of the bars/clubs had shut down for the season - we suspected it may be much livelier in July/August, but it was great for a peaceful break in September.

Plenty of restaurants around to choose from.

We spent a few days exploring the other towns around the lake. Getting the ferry to Tihany is an absolute must.

  • Liked — Having the pool to ourselves!
  • Disliked — The coffee at breakfast and the lack of tea making facilities in the room
