Eger is a tourist town and the hotels and sites are staffed and enjoyed accordingly. This hotel has a wonderful location just off the main square just below the Castle. You would be hard pressed to find a better location. However there is little else to recommend about this hotel.

Rooms are clean but nothing special. Shower was tiny (if you are not slim, don't expect to be able to turn around while showering) and sink faucets were rusted. Our toilet didn't work one day but they fixed it pretty quickly (although we were informed if it required a plumber we would have to wait two days).

Service is minimal. Most of the time it is a waiter that will get you keys, check you in or whatever. This is really a tourist restaurant with rooms above and everything is built (even service) around the restaurant. Rooms even smell of that grease and you will hear the noise if you try to sleep in.

There is no elevator so be prepared to lug your bags up two flights. Parking is about the equivalent of three or four blocks away in some shared lot which is locked but not staffed so you borrow key from hotel and return afterwards.

We ran into issues with billing problems since we were paying for multiple rooms (family) and that seemed to cause confusion with waiters and staff. It was resolved without too much trouble but confirmed our general lack of faith in their service levels.

By the way, at the south end of the square runs a touristy train that for 600 ft (about $3) per person will take you to the wine cellars and back.

We learned that hotel Star ratings are generous in Hungary and my experience is that assume one to one-and-a-half star less to compare to US or UK. Thus, a three star hotel in Eger is probably a two star hotel at best.

Would I stay here again? Probably not but we enjoy good service. If all you care about is a good location and reasonably clean room it may work for you.

We stayed here for a night as an excursion from Budapest. The staff couldn't have been nicer or friendlier. Eger is a beautiful village and Offi house it at the center of it, right off the corner of the main square. Couldn't ask for a better location. This is a quiet town; things shut down fairly early, which made for very little street noise at night - none, actually, that I can recall, except the casual toning of a church bell at the top of the hour. If they're booked, check the Senator House, which is directly adjacent and seems equally appointed.

We enjoyed staying here when we were in Eger. The staff was very nice and helpful. The rooms are a decent size, clean and pretty nice. The location was great. We arrived pretty early in the morning and they cleaned our room as we had breakfast.. which was very nice.

The Offi Hotel is simple, clean and is in a great location. The staff is very friendly, nice café/patio area within a stone throw of the town square and castle. There are only a few rooms, and we were there just before the season started, so it was very quite and relaxing.
