“Not Recommended”

We traveled with a small group of 8 people. We traveled to 6 countries and stayed in 8 cities. This was the worst of the hotels. The shower was broken, no hair dryer, Sanka coffee, "yuk" breakfast, room smelled musty, and very hard mattress. While the employees were nice and helpful, and the hotel was close to the center of town, there were too many negatives.

“Pools are the best part...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 June 2010

Checked into the triple room I booked months ago, to a room overlooking the parking lot and trash cans. The third bed was a hard chair thing that wouldn't really work for an adult, but a 7-year-old only mentioned that it was harder than the other beds. The toilet was in a separate room from the shower and sink, and was never clean. The WC room smelled of urine the whole time we were there. Paint was peeling, curtains didn't fit, the only English channel on TV didn't work anymore, and the shower leaked out of the back of the fixture, leaving only a trickle to actually wash with. I mentioned all of these problems, but they were never taken care of. The whole grounds are run-down; there's a roof garden that is so overgrown, there's virtually nowhere to go out there! I would rate the hotel even lower, but there are a few nice things: 1. the hotel's own wellness facility is beautiful. There's a nice "fun" pool with bubbles, sprays, jets, etc; a "children's" pool mostly used by the octogenarians because it's warmer, but it is large and has nice foot-jets, a wonderful lay-down bubble pool, 3 different saunas, an aromatherapy chamber and a plunge pool. When you need to dry off from all the soggy fun, there are heated tile tables, for lack of a better word, to lay on. Secondly, the hotel has its own access to the public thermal bath, which you can take advantage of as much as you like with a deposit for a bracelet (which is literally kept in an envelope separate from the register, it is really easy to get back!) The thermal is fabulous, really fun for the whole family, and having the hotel right there (and the extra towel to use) is fabulous. The breakfast was plentiful, though heavily Germanic, and after a week of living with an Hungarian family, we were surprised at the focus on hot dogs and wholemeal breads. Overall, with a 5-minute walk to the center, I probably wouldn't stay again, but I'm not sure if we'd find a more appealing option for a family with small children.

“Pool closes early!”

Picked this hotel for a one night stop in Eger because of the open air pool. But on arriving at just before 6.00pm on a gloriously hot day we were told the pool shuts at 6.00pm! Very dissapointing as a couple of hours in the sun after a long drive was just what the doctor ordered.
Hotel is adequate at best. Rooms OK - not dirty or shabby but, to repeat what was said on an earlier review, the security on the windows led a lot to be desired. Made you think twice about leaving a lap top in the room.
Having eaten here on a previous visit we decided to eat out in the town as the restaurant was decidedly average fare. Plenty of decent and very reasonable restaurants in the town about 10 mins. walk away.
Breakfast was dissapointing - not a great deal of selection and the scramble eggs could have been used to sole your shoes. Not a great deal of fruit or cereals on offer.
Hotel is seems popular with elderly tourists taking advantage of the spa and thermal facilities. So do not be surprised to see people wandering around reception and the bar in flip flops and a robe.

Thank you for your review.

We made many positive changes, so our indoor wellness pool closes at 22.00.

I hope to see you again, to show you how many changes we made :).

“Charged for a room we did not use canceled (48 hrs in advance)”

We canceled with sufficient time ( 48 hours) through the website we used to make the reservation. Unfortunately since I had never had a problem, I did not save the e mail canceling the reservation. I use a lot of websites so I can't find out which I did it through. Now since it has been a while I don't have the e mails going back that far, so I will have to pay. We stayed at the Panorama hotel instead. Friendly honest people.

“Modern Hotel & Thermal Baths”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 September 2004

Just 10 minutes gentle walk from the centre of town and connected via a private entrance to the thermal baths, this hotel is superbly situated. The rooms are the usual standard type for modern business/tourist hotel, adequate and clean but not plush and certainly not tired or shabby. The choice is being in the heart of town in an older smaller hotel, possible with more character or next to the pool with a short walk to the centre. I preferred the pool and would choose this hotel again.
There were not so many tourists in town, possibly because of the dreadful weather so not being at the heart of town was not missed although there was a band stand there with two very good musicians and a wine bar just opposite to provide refreshments while listening.
The Flora lacked atmosphere as with any other modern hotel and some of the 1st floor rooms look directly out on to a roof which if the hotel was busy and weather was warm and dry could cause a nuisance with noise and perhaps some nervousness as the French windows did not lock properly making entry to the room via the balcony quite easily possible.
The staff were helpful and pleasant. Breakfast excellent
