This hotel looks great from the outside, but what a disappointment when you get inside. This hotel is in urgent need of a total renovation! Everything is old and dated. Rooms are dark with just some terrible old and dark brown furniture. Depressing! Save your money. There's nothing "grand" about this hotel!

The Civis Grand is, from the outside, indeed a grand hotel. With a big plaza-like space in front of it, it is also well situated. The main lobby and halls are very spacious and almost luxurious with high ceilings and columns everywhere. The breakfast buffet is rich and tasty, and staff are helpful and polite. Well, this is where the positives end! Our double room "Superior" was big indeed, with large full-length windows giving on the plaza, and quite clean, but everything else was old and in urgent need of restoration: the closets don't close/open easily; the beds look fragile; the toilet door doesn't lock; the electrical wall connections are dodgy; the bath tub doesn't have a shower curtain/glass; the toilet seat flushing system is questionable. So, outside and halls are imposing (Soviet-style-like), but rooms need "heavy" work. But if you're in Debrecen for a night or two and don't mind the "details" above, it's ok.

After reading all the reviews here I almost cancelled my booking in Aranybika but I am happy I didn't do it in the end. I really loved this hotel, our room was nice and clean, the bed was comfortable, the hall and the restaurant were beautiful and the staff was really helpful. The only thing that I would not call it a wellness hotel, the wellness part rather looks like a hospital, it doesn't provide a relaxing atmosphere. We spent the day in the Aquaticum, so we didn't need the local wellness services, anyway. But for a hotel, this place is perfect.

The room looked so terribly old ,maybe it was elegant in the beginning of the century but for today's standards and for the price they charged it was a very bad deal for me.The room smelled moldy,dust was everywhere,the carpets were stained,and allover ,it looked like this room has'nt been cleaned for a very long time .The channel selection on the tv was poor and the picture was rather fuzzy.The toilet seat was broken and the showerhead sprayed everywhere and made a total mess because the sower door did not close properly.The dinning room was dirty , the tablecloth stained,and the breakfast was of poor quality.Walls are paperthin,so you can hear the tv shouting and all other noises , even the intimate ones,from the room next to yours.Room service was bad , the server refused to charge the amount to my bill ,and insisted of paying him immediately .This hotel needs a thorough renovation and cleanup to meet some higher european standards. The hard beds and the stained linen and towels need to go!!!Allover this hotel was very disappointing.
