We visited Budapest for the New Year just gone over a five day period and had the good fortune to book and stay at the Lanclid 19. The hotel is in an excellent and convenient location 2 minutes walk from the Chain Bridge at the foot of Castle Hill / Museums on the Buda side of the Danube The tramline and bus services run virtually past the door and the centre of Pest is a straightforward 10 minute walk over the bridge .
The hotel itself is extremely well-appointed, comfortable and clean with good sized rooms; ours had a good-sized bed, an excellent bathroom with walk-in shower, flatscreen t.v. and very well stocked minibar / fridge should you choose to use it. We paid a bit extra for a river view room which had spectacular views over the river and all the iconic buildings such as the Hungarian Parliament and Four Seasons hotel which are illuminated at night. It was good to also watch the river traffic and foot traffic over the lit Chain Bridge.
With only 43 bedrooms, it is very personal as opposed to the much larger chain hotels on the other side of the bridge in busy Pest. It has a small lounge bar in the main Reception area where Continental breakfast can be taken at an affordable cost . There is a restaurant on the first floor which we did not avail ourselves of as we preferred to be out and about on both sides of the river sampling the wide variety of cuisine. The only minor thing we found lacking was that there were no facilities for making tea/coffee in the room after wandering aaround the sites and the city all day before going back out for the evening foray. I don't know if this is a continental thing; luckily, my wife is an avid tea drinker so we always travel with our own travel kettle to be self-sufficient.
Special mention must be made of all the staff - particularly the young ladies on Reception, who were very pleasant, respectful, courteous, helpful in providing us with maps, local information and directions; they also gave us good advice such as not to use on-street but only pre-booked taxis which they were happy to sort out for us on telephone numbers we provided. They also assisted us with the check-in procedures for our return flight. One young lady advised us about visiting the Gellert Baths, Spa and Thermal pool which is on the Buda side of the river, about 25 minutes walk from the hotel. She then arranged with the Housekeeper to provide us with a set of towels to take with us so we didn't incur the cost of hiring them at the Spa. (Note: both males and females are required to wear bathing caps in the main Spa pool; disposable ones can be purchased inside the actual pool area for 100 Florint). They also directed us to the Market, bars and restaurants we had already researched.
If you are visiting Budapest and want a comfortable hotel with very good service away from the madding crowd of Pest, you need look no further the the Lanclid 19.
[If using taxis to transfer from /to the airport, I recommend FoTax who are based both at the airport and in the city; they operate to a fixed price menu, charging us 5,300 Florint for a straighforward, quick and easy transfer, door to door. On the return journey, we booked with them through Reception and the cost from hotel to airport was a fixed 4,560 Florint. You may save a few Florint by using the shuttle service but may have to wait up to 20 minutes for the next shuttle/party of 8 passengers and endure 4 drop-offs around the city]
Happy travelling !!
