Nice i did not read the other reviews - This Place is charming and cozy . Location is nothing but the best possible one can imagine if he is on a buz trip... I checked in at 07 am (early flight) and ustood that the hotel staff were not notified by my agency for same. Nevertheless i was given a key to a room (probably for similar cases) where i got a bath and a rest until my room was ok.Breakfast is not something special but over ordinary.

“Basic”

Stayed here for one night. The single room had two single beds and a desk in a very long, very narrow room with a 'temporary set-up' feel to it. It was stange being able to see the security guard's torch in the opposite building, from bed, through the netted but un-curtained window.

Arrived late so didn't use the restaurant. Breakfast was the normal 'continental' type. Quite adequate. Location is very central if your a sightseer.

“Lovely hotel very welcoming!!”

I am really surprised by some of the other reviews regaridng this Hotel.

I went, with my girlfriend, to this hotel in March on the recommendation of some work colleagues and i'm glad we did. The hotel was clean, the room we had was a large double room with a balcony and the staff very friendly. Although i wasn't too pleased when on the last morning of our stay, one of the friends of a member of staff helped my girlfriend beat me at chess on the very large chessboard in the foyer.

The location is only a 5-10 minute walk from the parliament building etc and the only problem we had with the location was the fact my boss had incorrectly marked the location hotel on the map.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone, infact a group of us are planning a return trip to Budapest early next year and will be looking to book this hotel.

“Glad I had Not read the other reviews before I stayed there....”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 September 2005

I thought the Hotel Hold was a quirky little place and found the staff to be friendly and helpful (as best they could be in English). The other reviews make me wonder about my own tastes/perceptions..... This is NOT a "typical" U.S. "boutique" hotel (I have stayed at many of them in my travels) but it is a good place to stay if you do not like big chains or expensive places. The price was decent. I stayed in two different rooms: one was a single and then I was transferred to a suite when my daughter arrived. The single room was smallish, but clean and had a marvelous floor-to-ceiling window and balcony onto the street. When I was moved to the "double", it was actually a VERY LARGE two room suite, again, with large double windows on a balcony. It did have a waterbed which might not be to everyone's liking, but it was an experience (reminder of my youth, actually).

Breakfast was rather basic, but better than most in American chains.

The little outdoor tavern attached to the restaurant was a nice place to relax with a cold beer at night and the staff always stayed a few minutes after closing to let me finish up.

The Hotel Hold is on a very quiet street in the business district, and contrary to other's statements, is only a short walk (5 minutes ?)from the Parliament, the Basilica, etc. and about two blocks from a subway stop.

I would stay again.

“Hotel Hold--Bad Choice”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 May 2005

I booked a three-day stay at the Hotel Hold for May 19-21. After my wife and I arrived and checked in, we found that the room we were given was totally inadequate: tiny, confined, dingy. Plus, we had booked a double room, but what we got was clearly a single. The bed was small, and it had only one pillow. We requested a second pillow, and got it only after a second attempt. There were two water closets (for whatever reason), and one of them wasn't working. When we complained, the management said the room was the only one available.

I could mention a few other things, but suffice it to say that it was the worst room we encountered in over seven years of traveling to Europe. We prefer quaint, out-of-the-way places that exude a bit of local charm; and we like to save a bit of money in the process. The Hotel Hold had none of that. Plus, the staff was most unhelpful and seemed to be generally mystified as to why we were unhappy with the room, and they made no attempt to correct the situation

We moved out after the first night and found more-than-adequate accommodations a few blocks away.

If you're going to Budapest, watch out for this one.
