“Do not go there!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2011

The hotel, though is said to be 3 star, is very far from being such.
It's located very far from the center and all the major attractions.
The service is absolutely unprofessional. The stuff do not know what hospitality means. When we arrived at the Rege, we said that it was our honeymoon. However, there was no reaction whatsoever. The girl at the desk didn't even congratulate us. Not mentioning the room that we got. Very old, not very clean. We asked whether they had any other rooms, but they said that they were fully booked. On our second night we heard some very annoying sounds from the pipes. The maintenance guy said there was nothing too do and we should change the room. So the next morning we came to the front desk and there was the manager who surprisingly quickly found a new room for us. That was indeed a better room since it was renovated in a way. That made us even more disappointed since they couldn't give this room in the beginning when I mentioned our honeymoon......
The food was the same during our entire stay (5 nights), so the last breakfast I wasn't able to look at the food.
To summarize, one big disappointment.
Do not go there. Ever!

“BEWARE - there are two different hotels inside Rege!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 June 2010

Almost 3 years passed since we have got "a taste of Rege", but that awful smell of urine-soaked bathroom still haunts us. We visited Budapest by means of israeli "Kanfei teufa" flight&hotel package. The travel agent displayed Rege hotel as a 3-star one, as well as hotel's Internet site did.
When we arrived, we saw that the hotel has 2 different wings: the left one which can be seen in the Internet (a tall building, maybe really 3 stars), and the right one where we were destined to live for a week - dirty, filthy, shabbiest, youth hostel. We were shown at least three different rooms - all were stinking of urine/cigarettes/who-knows-what-else.
The receptionist told us that this is what our agency reserved for us. It was evening, and no one was able (or liked) to help us. At last we agreed to sleep one night in a room that turned out to be as stinking as the others. The smell of toilet was everywhere. We asked that they'll clean around the WC pan - an old woman came, very nervous, poured some stuff inside the pan, and went out. She did not speak English. We understood that they simply do not know what is a clean, scrubbed WC(let 'em visit Israel!).
In the morning we were given another room - less stinking with urine, more with cigarettes.
Surprisingly, the breakfast was OK, maybe because it is served to the better-wing guests, too
.
Summary:

Rooms - disgusting, filthy and stinking. Noisy.
Breakfast - good.
Location - in a green zone, but 20 min. by bus to a Metro station, and then some stops by train to the city center. No buses after 23.00.
Staff - Seemed unhelpful and cunning. Almost no one speaks English or any other language, only Hungarian. One guest from our group had left some bottles of liquor in his room - everything disappeared (poor man, he did not speak English or Hungarian to explain what happened to him).
Service - the poorest. Soap dispensers in the bathroom were regulated for almost no output. ...and smell-smell-smell everywhere.

I stayed here in the standard rooms, whitch are clasified at 3 stars, but one star is to much for them. Dirty bath, with pubian hair all over, the carpet was full of spots, etc. Don't go there unless you are payed to.

“Comfortable stay at Hotel Rege”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 March 2008

After reading some of the reviews on this hotel we were apprehensive as to what we would find, so it was a pleasant surprise to discover a good hotel with all the usual facilities and a quiet and comfortable room. On arrival (late at night) we asked for a quiet room and were given no. 502 (I can definitely recommend this one as it is on the quiet side of the hotel, not facing the main road). The room was of a good size and quite well equipped but there is no tea or coffee making facilities. A good idea to take your own if you want this. The bus service into town is frequent, no.22 and stops quite close to the hotel. It takes about 15 minutes to Moska Ter (you will know you are there when you see the yellow trams and other buses, also McDonalds and Panasonic). Public transport is free if you are over 65 and you don't need a pass. Trams, metro and buses are all very frequent and you don't have to wait long for anything. I would recommend taking the no. 10 bus (leaving from Moska Ter - you have to go up the steps and turn left) to the Old Town - just a short trip - where there is a Tourist Information office. We found this very helpful and the staff speak good English.

“Hotel Rege”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2008

I booked for ten nights on a bed and breakfast basis at the hotel
and it was as i have come to expect.
the reception staff were very obliging even ordering a pizza to be delivered after my very late arrival. As the hotel was fairly quiet the venue for Breakfast changed three times and was always well stocked. The room was large enough with two single beds and was cleaned and the towels replenished daily and contained a mini bar but no snacks were available in the room.
This is a 3star hotel twenty minutes from the centre by a frequent bus service ,with a basic restaurant menu and a limited bar in the foyer . Well worth the money.
