Beautiful old hotel with modern facade. Welcoming large lobby with a Concierge who said "I can do anything for you". He was very helpful. For the British traveller, there is a large statue of Sir Winston Churchill and his bulldog next to the stairway. The room was a little smaller than those we had been used to, but had an excellent bathroom well stocked, plus tub. . Free safe. Interesting outlook to a quaint side street/alley with opposite buildings showing bright plants in the windows - between the double glazing. Excellent T.V. reception for those who speak the language.
No tea/coffee facilities, but didn't really matter as the lobby had food and drink for the after hours diners (us). Food here was excellent. Prices realistic. My daughter and I had eaten very well on the train from Prague so evening food was not an issue.
Breakfast in the dining room was amazing. So much from which to choose, a chef to cater for whatever was not on the menu, but plenty to eat.
The decorations for the two dining rooms was interesting. The first room had a huge canopy over the chairs and tables and was the most refreshing idea on all our travels. The main dining room, "Olives" was totally different still, seemed to be in an olive grove. At least that's what we thought. My daughter and I had a magnificent meal in "Olives" the following evening. Again, the staff was excellent, helpful in explaining the menu for us, and our wines were great. A really enjoyable evening. I would certainly go back to this Hotel. It was central, furnishings were top quality and breakfast especially well done.
HINT NO. 1. The Hotel has a well stocked Gift Shop open till late, which is a help for those who leave souveniers until the last minute to purchase.
HINT No. 2. Don't ever consider going from one country to another, as we did, without checking the currency first. We took taxi from the Train Station, and paid in Euros, accepted without question. The next day was different - that taxi driver didn't accept Euros, and my daughter had to find "a hole in the wall" to get some currency whilst I waited in the cab and she braved the cold weather. Thankfully, there seem to be many "auto tellers" (Australian definition) so we did not have to wait long.
Room Tip: Out travel agent in Australia booked the rooms, so I think she did very well. Our room looked out...
