“A very nice hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

My partner and I recently spent 4 nights here and would defintely recommend it.
The rooms are basic, the equivalent of an Ibis or Premier Inn, functional and very clean. The hotel is quiet, peaceful and well located.
Based in Buda, you can get the 8 or 1112 bus from outside the hotel straight into the centre of Pest. Alternatively, if you fancy a walk, the Metro station is about 15 mins away. Castle Hill and the Citadella are walkable.
There is a petrol station across the road which we found really handy when we wanted to grab some snacks. There is a great pub on the corner up from the hotel which sells amazing food, great beer and is very cheap indeed.
The staff were excellent. They really went out of thier way to make us feel welcome and were very helpful (especially the dark haired younger chap!). This hotel is a great base from which to explore an incredible city. Budapest is a must do. So much history, culture, great food, beer(!) and people.

I only have 2 criticisms. Firstly, there aren't many places near the hotel to eat. You do need to go into Pest or up to Castle Hill for resturants. This shouldn't put you off though.
The second is very minor. The TV only has American CNN!A bit of BBC News or ITV would be good when you're having your downtime!Although, German "Pop Idol" certainly provided a few laughs.

Room Tip: Off the road!

Dear KT1801,

Thank you for your praising words! I appreciate your full and detailed review so much! Our staff will be happy to hear that they could make your stay convenient! The guy at the reception you mention might be Wolfi. I will not miss the opportunity to pass him your friendly words! Thank you!

About Tv channels: it is true in room we have CNN and no BBC, but in the bar area our clients are welcome to enjoy more than 100 channels, including BBC and many more.

I am proud to read your nice words about our capital city, Budapest, encouraging other travellers to visit Hungary! Thank you for that!

Hope to hear from you soon and meet again in Hotel Mediterran!

Dear sandra21000,

Thank you for spending time to write your kind comment about our hotel! Nice of you to mention our friendly staff, our location, and the bus connection that is really very much convenient. Also I am happy that you write about our breakfast, listing the variety of foods we provide to our guests. Thank you for that!

The pay tv you mention is showing latest movies and adult programmes. All other tv channels are free of charge in the hotel.

Hope you will have the wish and possibility to return to Budapest maybe in the summertime, and we can welcome you again in Hotel Mediterran!

Kind regards,

Attila

“3 star at the most”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2012

The hotel is clean and the staff are friendly and helpful , my biggest gripes, traffic noise due to its location and the beds, why oh why do foreign hotels class and consider two tiny single beds to be equivalent to a double, I booked a double room, on arrival I was given a room with two tiny singles, so small and uncomfortable I had to ask for a change of room at one in the morning to one with a double bed, the staff obliged and gave me a room on the front of the hotel adjacent the extremely busy main road and surprise! surprise! the double bed was no more than two of the tiny singles pushed together and as they have a wood surround still no better, and to make it worse not a double duvet, but two extremely small and thin single duvet's, to conclude not a very pleasant experience.

Dear Steve W,

Thank you for your review and for sharing your experience about the hotel. I sadly noticed that the sleep quality did not fulfill your expectations. Although my colleague provided you a double room, in that room the 2 single beds were pushed together, and it is true there is a 7-8 mm gap between the 2 beds. We have some rooms with classic double mattress bed as well, but those rooms were occupied by couples. We usualy give these rooms to them, and single bedded rooms for solo travellers. However, I make the necessary steps and will set some more double matress rooms in the near future.

As you mentioned you were satisfied with our staff. Let me thank you for mentioning it besides the negative things you had to experience.

Wishing you all the best and thank you again for your constructive opinion!

“Nice hotel in Budapest”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

Nice hotel with a good bus connection downtown (bus 8 or 112 just round the corner). Clean rooms and bathrooms. Friendly English speaking staff, willing to inform and help. Good breakfast. The only negative remark is the fact that smoking is allowed in the hotel lobby, which is rather annoying for non-smokers.

Dear johan2712,

Your positive review is so important for us! Thank you for sharing your opinion with all the Tripadvisor fans!

You mention smoking in the lobby. Let me inform you that from April 2012 in all hotels in Budapest will not be allowed to smoke in the lobby, restaurant and common areas. It will prevent non smokers from unpleasant cigarette smoke. Some smoking rooms will still be available for smokers.

Thank you for your visit and your comment! Looking forward to seeing you again in Hotel Mediterran!

Kind regards,

Attila

“Average but not 4 star as advertised.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 December 2011

My travel agent booked this for me as part of a business trip as it was a 4 star rated property, but I would have rated it below an Ibis at a 3 star. The room was warm and I actually had to open the window to cool it down a bit. The room was extremely clean and the hotel was in an good location to get to any part of the city and I was able to walk to 'The Great Market Hall.' The internet was an expensive add on at 5 Euro per day and did not work well. The parking charge was also high at 10 Euros per night. The staff was friendly and helpful. The beds were not of a good quality as I could feel the springs in my sleep. Overall I would say this is a basic, clean, average hotel for europe.

Dear mlbski,

Thank you for your comment on Tripadvisor and for highlighting the cleanliness of the rooms, the friendly staff and our good location!
About internet and garage cost: on the booking channels we provide several rate types and packages. Our cheapest price is the room only rate, which includes only room and VAT. This rate does not include breakfast, internet, wifi, sauna/jacuzzi etc. Our guests of course can decide at the hotel if they use any of the mentioned services, and they can pay it plus on the spot. Also, we have bed&breakfast rates and package rates, which already include the unlimited wifi internet use, sauna/jacuzzi, breakfast etc. on a discounted rate. The use of our secured underground garage costs 10 EUR/ night and we offer alternative parking possibility in front and next to the hotel, which is free of charge.

Thank you again for sharing your experience with us and with all the tripadvisor community!

Best regards from Budapest!
