“Great and cheep hostel.”

My wife and I were visiting Budapest on November 1st 2007, and stayed for 2 nights. We stayed in Hostel Griff Junior, which is just 1 tram station from Kelenföldi railway station. It´s in Bartók Béla street between Somogyi and Ballagi Mór street. Hotel is cheap (15 euros per person per night - including breakfast), but is very clean. Furniture is a bit old, but clean and useful. Our room had twin beds, but we pushed bed together and made a double bed, and it wasn’t a problem. We use shared bathroom, and it was very clean. There was also shared kitchen with microwave oven (among else), so it´s very useful. You have free internet connection in lobby, or you can use hotel computer (very old model, but working) for about 0,3 euros (30 euro cents) per 30 minutes. Receptionist spoke English pretty well, so communication was not a problem. Breakfast is same at home, so we were satisfied.
If you don´t have much money to spend on hotel, this is excellent place to stay.
Tram station is 50 meters from hotel, and just across street is grocery shop. Citadel is 5 minutes by tram from hotel, and old Buda city 7 minutes. It takes about 10 minutes by tram to metro entry (red line) and main square in Pest is 2 metro station (5 minutes) from there. Trams are coming every 5, and metro every 2 minutes, so nothing is far from hotel.
If you are planning low budget trip to Budapest, I can recommend stay in Hostel Griff junior.

“Cheap place to stay!”

I went to a Budapest last year in spring and stayed in this hotel for a two days. I want to recommend it to all people who would love to see Budapest and save some money on a Hotel. We rented en-suite for 3 persons-the price was about 18 euros per person, per night-breakfast included. The room was nice, very clean, with lovely little bathroom. In the room there was also a little refrigerator and the TV.
Hotel is located in the Buda part of the city, 10 minutes by tram to the nearest metro entry. Tram line is just a minute away from the hotel.
One part of the hotel is a dorm of some sort,so it`s not so quiet sometimes. I was satisfied with this hotel because en-suite was cheap and I didn`t want a shared bathroom. I would recommend it to the people who plan a low budget trip and want to get most of it.
Hotel also has a lovely little park in front of it.
The only thing I was not so satisfied was that receptionist didn`t know English very well so it was a bit a problem to communicate with her and get an answer to some questions I had.

“Basic accommodation for budget travelers”

My girlfriend booked Hotel Griff Junior through a travel agent for our trip to Budapest two years ago. Besides the convenient price, our requirement was to have a room for two with en-suite bathroom and shower. In fact, the Griff is divided in two neighboring buildings - one is a three star hotel (Griff), the other one (Griff Junior) is more like a hostel type accommodation. Our room in Griff Junior was simple but clean, we had everything we expected from an affordable place to sleep. The breakfast was included in the price, it was however also possible to order soft drinks etc. for extra charge. Note that Hotel Griff is a bit away from the traditional places of interest for tourists, it takes some 15-20 minutes by tram to get to the city centre. Next time, we would probably prefer something closer to the city centre.

  • Liked — Very low price
  • Disliked — A bit far from the city centre
  • Tips/Secrets — If you would like to avoid sharing the bathroom with other people, ask for a room with en-suite bathroom

“Don't Stay Here”

This is a truly awful hotel, you should avoid at all costs.
It may be cheap (€37 for a triple room), but it's cheap for a reason : it's disgusting.
Communal toilets, shower and kitchen did little to inspire confidence, unless you like green mould growing in the showers,,,,,,
Would probably appeal to back-packers, but given that Budapest is fairly cheap anyway, I highly recommend that any would-be guest with a reasonable budget stays elsewhere.
I will definitely NOT be staying at this hotel ever again !

“Great option for the budget (and not only) traveler”

This hotel is inexpensive and clean. I was most pleasantly surprised with it. It's about a 1/2 hour's walk to the old town, although one could also take a tram. Parking in the back, no extra charges. Clean rooms, hot showers, and a very simple and tasty breakfast. A great option for the budget traveler.
