“Excellent Service & Great Location for the budget traveler!”

My stay in room 332 at the Mercure Budapest City Centre was only for one night, but during that time I was very impressed with the friendly and helpful staff. Upon arrival, our coach bus was unable to turn down the street to the hotel, so one of the Mercure's concierge staff walked the 200 meters to meet my group, help with luggage, and guide us to the hotel. Also, the Mercure's bartender who made my espresso was very quick and courteous. In addition, upon my group's checkout @ 3 a.m., the Mercure's concierge staff showed us great hospitality and kindness as we gathered in the lobby for a quick breakfast. This hotel is conveniently located in the city center, with many shops, restaurants, and the fresh food market nearby. Lastly, I recommend eating dinner next door at Cucina if you enjoy Italian cuisine. My group of eleven people experienced delicious food, friendly and prompt service, good wine and beer, and a comfortable table setting.

“Very basic, below standards”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

This hotel is very basic. In my opinion it`s hardly a 3 star hotel.

My room was very small, the bathroom was tiny. Cleanliness is bad. Hair in the bed upon arrival, the carpet was old and dirty and there was dust everywhere.

The room was generally in urgent need of an refurbishment. The small table considered to be the working desk was so small and low I could not even put my legs under it, and I am not a giant.

The "bed" is not comfy, it`s just a cheap coil springs mattress placed on a wooden plate.

The windows opens only a tiny bit (for your safety).

The Internet is free, however, you get an code that expires at midnight before the departure day. You have to get another code, and they apparently can`t give it to you in advance. Very nice, that`s just what I need on the departure morning; chase for an valid wifi code.

The greatest feature (I have never seen that before in any hotel in the world) is the automatic message they send to you every morning between 9 and 11 o`clock. It`s absolutly nothing in it. Its like "enjoy Mercure, MSense" or something like that.
When the message arrives, the TV automatically notify you with a sharp alarm. You have to enter you room number and delete that message...by then you will be guaranteed awake.
Such an nonsense.

I called and tried to stop this. They said they cancel it...well in fact, they didn`t do anything about it. So if you like to sleep in, remember to unplug the TV...There is only one english channel anyway (BBC world)

The only positives are the location if you like to be in the middle of the tourist district and their cafe which serves nice snacks for really fair prices (like the Caesar salad for arround 5 Dollars or a delicous goulash soup for 3$).
They do as well room service and don`t even have a tray charge, besides a 7% service fee which includes tip.

Minibar prices are the usual rip off, over 4 Dollars for a tiny bottle of a soft drink.

...and make sure not to miss their "winter miracle" offer: One cup of tee for free, per stay :-)

Overall, really not recommendable.

“good location - small room”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

Hotel Mercure Budapest City Center is located in the center of the famous street Váci utca Budapest. Rated 4 star hotel and is a good level, the room we were in (616), non-smoking floor, was a small room with double bed, shower and toilet and a "landscape" and an inner Lfsag' window that opens only slightly (according to the hotel reception told us was fully booked and no room for replacement). breakfast at the hotel is rich and good, but no change in the days of our stay (6 nights). the hotel has wireless internet WIFI fee (6 euros per hour), three computers in the lobby entrance for the guests and you can browse them for free with the card room (a line). in addition, the room has a hollow Internet. who stockpiled ahead of time with the "network cable" can connect your computer to the Internet freely and without charge. advantage of the hotel - excellent location, central and close to public transport (central Station of the Metro). drawback hotel.

lovely and it was nice to relax there any time during the day and again very friendly staff.
