“old building”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2009

The first impression was not the greatest, an old bulding with some strange decoration. The staff were helpful and the room was ok, in spite of the old look.
The best thing about the hotel is that there's a tram station and a metro station in front of it so it's very simple to go to tourist attactions of Budapest. You can also get the tram and go directly to West End Mall, a good place to shop and have a meal if you're tired of goulash...
There's a supermarket in front of the hotel and Keleti trains station is within walking distance.
The neighborhood was't the great so you should be aware in the night, although Budapest isn't a dangerous city (by Brazilian standards).

“Beautiful Building”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 August 2008

This hotel is a beautiful building - very ornate and decorative. The rooms and bathrooms are spacious and well appointed. The staff were reasonably helpful but could not direct us to a laundry - we finally found one just around the corner by using the internet! The reception staff did not have a very good understanding of English but were as helpful as they could be. The breakfast was excellent value and was constantly replenished. We needed to use the internet a bit but the charges were excessive - 600HUF for 15 minutes. We found an internet cafe a few minutes walk away that charged 300HUF for an hour.

  • Liked — Situation - close to public transport
  • Disliked — Internet access

“Nice hotel but bed was uncomfortable”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 July 2008

We got a rate of $108 on this hotel, which is a nice value in the city. Staff were polite and helpful. Common areas were absolutely beautiful and ornate. Room was also nicely decorated and the bathroom was very nice. My only complaint was that my bed was uncomfortable; I could feel some of the springs poking up from the mattress. Not sure if this is the case for all beds but something to check first when you get your room. Location is good, close to the main train station and an easy walk to the attractions. There is a supermarket and metro station across the street. It was the end of our trip, so we decided to save a little money and buy a picnic dinner (and beer!) and some food for breakfast since we were leaving very early the next day. No internet access in the hotel. A nice value if you get a deal, but check your bed after you check in!

“Okay, but some problems”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 July 2008

This hotel is fairly well located especially if arriving/departing from Budapest Keleti Station.

It is a pretty, and interesting building.

It is overpriced for the quality of rooms, which are drab and not well sized. But they are adequate and clean.

The breakfast is extra (3500 HUF per person) which is the price for which a family of four could eat a good quality meal in the Budapest covered market. The breakfast is pretty rubbish too - soggy, greasy, cold slices of eggy bread, fruit past its best... that sort of thing.

The staff on the front desk are indifferent [but in the restaurant were friendly and attentive].

Everything 'extra' requires overblown extra charges.

Given that within days of staying here I had stayed in two more expensive European capitals in hotels a fraction of the price but with breakfast, wifi and such included in the room rate I was not impressed.

Avoid the greedy, money grabbing chains and stay somewhere that is better value.

It's not a bad or horrible place. I just felt ripped off and that there was probably somewhere just around the corner where I wouldn't have been.

  • Liked — The building itself
  • Disliked — The feeling of having vast sums of money extracted from me for bad quality services

“Beautiful Hotel, Very convenient”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 May 2008

Beautiful hotel! I got a great rate and was very impressed on arrival. From the outside it is lovely but inside you are greeted by an art deco style of luxury and a wonderful staircase. I skipped the 14 Euro breakfast. The hotel is right next to the Metro station although you can walk pretty much anywhere as well. There are lots of restaurants and bars nearby. The room itself was large and the water pressure heavenly.
