“Good for a hostel, not if you want a hotel experience”

I stayed here because a friend who I was traveling with is on a tighter budget than me...but I didn't mind at all. I loved staying in hostels when I was younger. Three of us shared a private quad. The bathroom got dirty and needed cleaning. The beds were fine. Plenty of light and electrical outlets. Some of the reception staff people were nice, some were cold. You could book many tours and services from the reception, and that is great.
I didn't find the place loud like others did. None of the internet stations worked.

“Poor service, very inefficiently run. Dorm style rooms were private per two people”

Read in hostel book that they pick you up for free at train station, called, woman said this was not the case, gave us the wrong directions to hostel. Internet was broken at hostel, breakfast was very poor (stale cereal, watered down coffee/tea). Beds were comfortable but it was very warm in the rooms, also not enough outlets.

“Loved Marco Polo Hostel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 June 2010

We were a large group staying for a couple of days in Budapest in 2008 and 2009. Both years we stayed at Marco Polo and were very pleased. We stayed in two 12 bed dorms and a double. All were very clean and comfortable. The staff was very helpful. They booked transportation to the airport for us and helped us find our way around the city. We are planning to return again this year, and are looking forward to it.

“Good hostel/cheap hotel in centre of town”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 April 2010

Got a cheap deal from easyjet when booking our flights from the uk. We were on a tight budget and Marco Polo hostel seemed like a good cheap option. We were happy to sleep in single beds but in a private room, not a dorm and were pleasantly surprised to get an ensuite and TV (seemed more like a cheap hotel than a hostel). Furnishings were good, everything clean. We had a 4th floor room so heard no noise from the bar downstairs. (See previous reviews on the bar).
Staff were pleasant enough when we asked them questions but apart from the bar downstairs (which seemed to be open all hours) there didnt appear to be a communal area in the hostel so we didnt really meet any other travellers. If this is your aim then perhaps dont choose here. If, however, you're looking for a cheap clean place to stay in the centre of Budapest, then we recommend Marco Polo.
We found it very easy to get to the major sights and the hostel had plenty of leaflets etc. Ask the hostel staff about things to do - we ended up at an organised rave in a thermal spa, watching aerial artists and belly dancers whilst we danced and drank in the swimming pool and hot baths (a weird but amazing experience and probably what we will remember above and beyond all the cultural sights we took in in the day time). Also pleasantly surprised to find most of the attractions were open despite several feet of snow during our visit - unlike the UK the Hungarians seem to know how to deal with it.
