“Excellent value!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 August 2011

Budapest was our first stop on an Eastern European vacation and the Hotel Orion proved to be an excellent location to base our travels. My wife, 10 year old daugher and I shared a room; the hotel staff cleverly used available room space for our daughter's bed. Staff was excellent -- very friendly and helpful. They helped us with dinner and show bookings and found us a reasonable taxi rate for the drive to the train station. The location was great; as others have mentioned, you'll need some comfortable walking shows to get to the attractions of Buda and Pest. That having been said, one of our fondest memories from the trip was of a sunset while crossing the Danube back to the Orion.

“Excellent unpretentious base”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 June 2011

Orion's an excellent base, super-efficient, clean, comfortable, good breakfast, centrally located for getting around, especially if you take good strolling shoes (it's not itself in the centre of the action, though there are a couple of restaurants and bars not far away). The building itself and interior are perhaps on the functional rather than the charming side and, come to think of it, we had two single duvets rather than a double which was irritating in a minor way, but overall there can be absolutely no complaints with Hotel Orion as a base to explore Budapest as long as you aren't looking for something plush and grandiose.

“Good value hotel”

We spent four nights here in May 2011. We spent £40 per night on an Expedia special offer, including breakfast and free wifi. This was excellent value. The hotel is a small 3 star quality hotel in a quiet street in Buda. It is 15 minutes walk to the shops etc of Pest, and about the same to the historic areas of Buda. Breakfast is ok, mostly cold with cooked eggs, no fruit salad. There were quite long periods when the free wifi could not be accessed. Staff helpful. We had a very good meal at Aranyszarvas, Szarvas Ter 1, Budapest 1013, just 5 minutes up behind the hotel, nouvelle cuisine, about £60 for two including wine, when we paid the bill we immediately booked there for the following night! We went to the opera, you can book it online, about one third of the price of London.

“Basic and Clean in Good Location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 May 2011

This hotel was pretty basic but it provided everything we needed. The rooms were quite small, however they were clean. The one thing they were missing was a safe but there is a deposit box down in reception. Although the hotel is in a quiet area with not many restaurants around, it is just a 10 minute walk up to the Castle District or over the bridge to Pest where there are loads of places.

Our booking included breakfast which was a good start to the day. Coffee, juice, cereal, yogurt, cold meats, cheese, bread and egg and bacon were available every morning until 10am.

Make sure you visit one of the baths for an afternoon!!

“great location, great service, beds vere awful”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 April 2011

We stayed for 3 nights, loved the location, close to everything and yet in very quiet part of town..loved the big breakfast, so much food to choose from. Room was not big , yet it was sufficient, it vas clean, staff was friendly and spoke great English. The only thing I didn't like was the bed..could have been just my experience, but all three nigts we stayed I couldn't sleep. We walked about 10 miles a day,so I was very tired yet could not fall asleep..it felt like like the bed had a bad support, almost felt like I was on a boat..otherwise great place and as far as the bed..it could have been just me to be too excieted to see all the things Budapest has to offer
