“Good Location and Friendly Staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

person found this review helpful

Staff: without exception, the staff were friendly and helpful. For example, a packet of maps and activities was ready for me on arrival.

Location: the hotel is centrally located close to the Opera and an easy five minute walk from the Deak Ferenc Ter Metro. Also, the trolley-bus from Keleti Station passes close by the hotel. There is a good supermarket across the road and several restaurants, including one of the excellent Trofea chain, close by.

Room: the room was large and comfortable. Despite it being -15C outside the room could be made as hot as desired! The bathroom shower was larger than many as was the ‘fridge. There was no coffee making but free coffee, tea etc. could be made in the dining room all day and night after breakfast.

Breakfast: on my first three days there was a small hot buffet –sausages and assorted eggs/beans – on my last day (I assume to lack of guests!) this was absent but staff would cook scrambled or fired eggs to order. There were also assorted cheeses, meats, cereals and breads. Not as large choice as, for example, at the Hotel Parliament, but more than adequate.

Demerits: the towels could be better; the room safe less portable and the TV choice wider.
Conclusion: a nice hotel and a good addition to the BW brand. I will certainly be using it next time I am in Budapest.

“Just ok”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 December 2011

This hotel was in a good location in the city centre also the room was ok and clean, the staff were helpful apart from the kitchen staff, maybe they had a bad day. Before i booked this hotel i read one of the review on tripadvisor saying that the hotel does not provide any toiletries so i emailed the hotel and they got back to me promptly with all the facility list so i found that very helpful. Also the price was very reasonable. However This hotel is as stated 4* but really i will give it less than that. This hotel had coffee vending machine for breakfast which was not tasty and just warm not hot. It was very disappointed to see the quality of coffee or tea so bad like that. Also the TV channel were not a quality of 4* hotels, there were like only 6 channels and 2 of them only in English and they were only news. Furthermore there was a sauna which is a bonus however they don't provide bath rope which makes it tricky to use it.

“Nice but a bit basic, but also good value for money!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 November 2011

Hotel Ambra is overall a nice hotel. It's location is very central with less than a 5 minute walk to the nearest Metro station (Opera, M1), or less than 10 minutes to the greater hub (Deak Ter, M1, M2, M3).

The staff was overall helpful and friendly. However, the restaurant staff didn't always seem to be 'in control' when organizing breakfast. (E.g.: on several occasions I had to notify the staff that the heater for the scrambled eggs had gone out and the food had gone cold.) They didn't always pay the best attention to such details.
Breakfast was okay, but of a bit less quality and choice than I'm used to from 4* hotels.

The room was quite spacy but also a bit modest. It had basic furniture but wasn't really luxurious. The bathroom was very nice: spacious and clean, but also a bit modest.

Overall a very nice hotel but with some rough edges. But maybe that's normal for a hotel that's relatively small. And, it's reflected in the cheap price anyway so still this hotel is a pretty good deal!

Room Tip: Ask for a room that's not on the top floor. Our top room floor was okay but you might be bothere...
